Hey ya'll I already have an Izula and love it even though I rarely get to use it. Anyway I was thinking of having a sheath made for my Busse Skinny Ash and want a smaller knife piggy backed onto the larger sheath. The purpose of the knife would be for some bushcrafting, skinning and cleaning fish if needed. Originally I was going to go with a smaller Busse for this purpose such as the BAD but the knife maker recommended the Izula or Swampwarden instead for the set up we have chosen. My question is how will the Izula fair in these task?
Before I spend a lot of money on the sheath and set up I would appreciate a non bias answer on how this knife will perform as a bushcrafter.
I'm brand loyal to a certain extent and sometimes will push my brand but like I said I respect yawls opinion and a unbiased one too.

Thanks,
BBQ

either would make a great companion blade.
the izula is a great wood carver & food prep blade.
I'll have to try it out on fish this weekend. :)

The Izula is a great utility blade and I love mine.
However, in my experience is not great for bushcraft. Especially when it comes to fine work. It may be because of blade geometry/blade coating/handle size.
With that being said, I can't think of anything else Izula can't handle in every day use.

Sure the Izula makes a great bushcrafter blade, thou in my case, I tend to just carry a Izula, and no other blade, when I have it. I can see it easily piggybacked to another knife, my problem with that is simply I don't seem to need "the other knife" if I have an Izula.

I've used the Izula for bushcrafting, it was my back-up blade when the main knife was lost. It worked well and kept a sharp edge. However, the handle is not good enough (meaning large enough) for continued use, and my hands were quickly full of blisters. I learned my lesson: my back-up knife is now a proper, full-sized knife. (My main bushcraft knife is a Dan Koster, the back-up is a Spyderco.)

The Izula is still great for EDC pocked carry.

I love my Izula - I've not tried to fillet a fish with it (I did clean a fish with my HEST though) - it will probably do a passable job, but it's not a fillet knife!

For my needs, the blade geometry and belly of the Izzy is fine, but I'm not carving buttons or gnome faces in walking sticks - if I were to do this, I would probably use my Mora.

Many people have scandi-ground their Izula, and this may help you with some carving tasks, too.

Yes the Izula would clean a fish just fine like your Hest did, although I wouldn't choose either to clean with nor fillet.. unless I had no choice..

btw, I now only Fillet fish, I no longer clean them.. does that mean I've moved into another category?:D

IMO the Izula is a utility EDC knife if you had to give it a description - can do most tasks pretty well but not as well as something specially designed for that task. A skinning knife is going to skin an animal better than the Izula, but you can still get the job done with it. I've skinned out a caribou with mine before with ease.

For those that find the handle too small, you may be in luck with the full handled and full scaled Izula 2 to be released.
