I was tying a new wrap on my Izula today....

I am still not entirely sure what happened, the knife was sheathed and i was tightening the final knots, next thing Ouch:eek:. I must have been pulling upward or something. It got me good, nice and deep.

Well i for one enjoy seeing pics of little injuries, pics below.

Getting a bandaid on that thing is going to be basically impossible. Liquid band-aid should do the trick. You will just have to reapply often.

just rub some dirt in it then hit it with rubbing alcohol...... jk

This was my first thought:D

But then i had a second thought...

After some cleaning i decided i needed stiches, in a moment of inspiration i grabbed some thin fishing gut and a curved needle from my wifes sewing stash.

Now quite excited i managed to thread the gut through the needle all was going well until i stuck the needle into the one side of the cut.

I then decided i didn't need stiches after all.

Covered it in antiseptic cream, some gauze and a bandage. I am such a chicken

My first thought when reading the title was "the sheath was off?!" haha. Pretty random incident.

haha! this reminds me when i was a kid my dad was removing fish heads and would occassionally lean on the spine with his palm for bigger fish...well, he got distracted by someone and leaned on an upside down knife. ouch! the woman he was talking to nearly passed out when all the blood started gushing out.

Nice attempt at a field suture - gotta be careful - too easy to get an infection, though.

Thanks for posting the cautionary tale!

Unbelievable how those little beasts bite. But really I don't think you need stitches on that one.

Another victim due to the Izula cord tying! That would of made a great pic to add to the thread Adam started a week or two ago. If you didn't see the thread, go back a few pages and you'll see it with MANY of us who have done the exact same thing in the exact same way. ( A lot of wounds and many stiches )

Cord wrapping is extremely dangerous! When cutting things we are very careful, but when dilly dallying, we get complacent! Be cafeful folks.

These babies come out on Tuesday morning...

I did a wrap this afternoon. My wife was saying "WHAT, are you doing?" I explained it to her and she asked if it was dangerous. I kept the sheath on the whole time, but, as with firearms I like to treat a sheathed knife as if it's unsheathed (like a firearm - treat them all as if they're loaded).

The whole thing with cord wrapping is that you tent do want to hold on to the sheath when tying. Don't just let it hang there.

Very good idea to wrap the blade in heavy duty packing tape or Duct tape. I do that on a few of my Bali-songs when flipping, and of course on both Izula's too

I barely made it through the weekend without taking them out myself. “The itch” started. Just realized I had 4 stitches and not 3, huh who’da thunk it.
