Hey guys, I've seen a few Izula pics now with the coating stripped on the blade and I like the look of it, just wondering how you guys fo about doing this? any info as to what materials you use or if its just natural would be great.

Thanks,

Nathan.

I used paint remover, left it on for about a half hour, even though it said 15 minutes, use

gloves, and a chemical resistant scraper. Repeat if necessary.

Stripper is the easiest way. I used sand paper since I wanted to polish the blade anyway. 150 grain, took about a half an hour to get through the coating.

May I ask why you guys removed the coating? I thought it was there to help prevent rust.

I have more than 1 izula and wanted to try something different. The thought

was the knife would cut better without the coating, which it does. Also, I liked

the look of it.

Rust has not been a problem, I use the knife just as I always did with no special

attention.

ive never used this on a knife, but when i stripped my bike i used aircraft grade stripper which i found at autozone. I sprayed it on and 5 minutes later i just washed it off.

After you guys stripped it, did you force a patina? If so, how is it holding up against rust?

Do the logos remain after stripping?

Yup, it should have been obvious from the photos...

The logos are laser engraved all the way through the coating and into the metal. That's why you need to oil the logos as well as the edge to prevent rust...

TTD,

Could you post or direct me to pictures of your stripped 3 and/or 6? I am thinking of

stripping my 4 and would like to see some pictures of yours...

Thanks for all the info guys. and @ESEERATFAN: The only reason I'm doing mine is because parts of the coating are wearing off and I don't like the look of it so I figured I'd just remove it all. And as for the rust, I have other 1095 blades without coating that have no rust on them so this one should be fine as well.

I just took the coating off the blade for better cutting performance plus I like the patina that will develope over time. Perty.:D

did you not see the pics?

I did see the photo, however the ant logo is very faint...

I wasn't sure how deep the etching actually is, or if it was
just a ghost image on the surface...
I should have been more specific...
