Izula edge retention?

My friend and his father are taking a 28 day boss course this summer and wanted a good small knife so I bought both of them an izula to practice with they go camping every weekend with them I told them any problems just let me I doubt there will be......... So two days after receiving them they told me they won't hold a edge. They gave them to me and I thought they were just using ( as in not sharpening after use and beating on noted wood or something) them wrong I brought them to work to test cutting open boxes ( which I do daily with mine and it stays shaving sharp by the end of the day) not even ten boxes in they are dull. I don't want to warranty them out so could any one make a recommendation on maybe getting them to hold longer? Has any one had this happen? Sorry and thank you in advance.

Will be happy to check the Rockwell on these for you.

I just spoke to Shon on this and what we would like for you to do on these is to ship them directly to me in Alabama. Best thing is email me and we can get new Izulas coming out ASAP and you can ship these back. All I will need is the knife only, no sheathing or components. So, drop me an email jeff@eseeknives.com and let me know your shipping address and what color Izulas you have. We will get these shipped out to you. As soon as I hear from Rowen that they have shipped then I will get you to ship these to me so you're not without a knife during the process.

now thats great customer service. this is why it makes it so easy for all of us to keep buying your knives.

It would be understandable to end up with a few improperly heat treated blades. Stuff happens to the best of us. The importance and a good business practice is how fast you correct the situation and make it right.

Did I mention I just ordered a Tan RC-4 from KFS? Trust in any relationship is paramount.

OUTSTANDING!
These posts never get old.
ESEE are some real stand up guys.
With most companies, they treat you like your trying to steal from them, here they want to give you a new knife just in case there is something wrong with the one you have.
Other outfits should take note, both in and outside of the knife industry.

great c.service... I own a lawn care co. and use my izula all the time and it has exceptional edge retention! I'm sure there is something going on

And that there is exactly why whenever anyone asks me what blade to buy I direct them to ESEE.

I'm confused by this thread. What happened to asking for the original UPC codes from the label and a copy of his receipt? No restocking fee? He wasn't asked to include payment to ship the new knife back to him? What about the mandatory "allow 4-6 weeks for shipping"?

I don't understand.

All joking aside it's refreshing to see customer service done right. Thanks guys!

Talk about customer service.
Every time I see one of these, I'm itching to go buy another ESEE.

seanystrangle,

Your friends are in for an adventure.(tough course) I would suggest that you add the scales to the Izula. Nothing worse that ill fitting boots and sore hands from your knife handle. They will get to know thier knives well on this course. I have been through the 14 and 28 day field course at BOSS. I also recommend a convex grind. Your friends will get a list of item they can take and the instructors will check for anything not on the list.

thank you I will add some for them then didn't even think about that part, I'm exited for them. I'm hoping to take a course next year. I'll also ad a convex edge for them and hope I don't mess it up this time lol

Jeff, it would be cool if you report back the test results. I'm not saying I think the knives were or were not defective but I do know a factory ground Izula with the coating still on doesn't cut cardboard as well as a stripped one with convex edge.

Quite possibly the best customer service I've ever seen! I think I want to work for you guys!:D

I wonder... could this be a wire edge issue on a new knife? The edge on my new Izula rolled surprisingly quickly when I used it to cut up cardboard - which, admittedly, can be quite hard on knives. However, since then I've knocked down the shoulders and convexed the edge, completely removing the factory edge in the process. I haven't had any more problems with the edge rolling after that, though I haven't done any particularly heavy cutting.
