I've looked up and read NC's knife laws over and over, and I still can't determine if a small fixed blade knife is legal for concealed or open carry. An Izula would be a great knife to add to my EDC but I want to stay on the legal side or the law. So, to anyone who understands the NC knife law publications, please let me know if it's legal for either concealed or open carry. Thanks alot.

I don't think so, I looked it up and pretty much immediately found this, I read this as only folding knives are allowed for public carry.

This section does not apply to an ordinary pocket knife carried in a closed position. As used in this section, "ordinary pocket knife" means a small knife, designed for carrying in a pocket or purse, which has its cutting edge and point entirely enclosed by its handle,

Now I noticed that too, but it said no daggers, dirks, bowies, or switch blades. An Izula is none of these things. I'm sure you are right though, no fixed blade carry in NC. I was really looking forward to getting an Izula, but I guess I shouldn't waste my money on a knife I can't even carry. :grumpy:

You would still be able to carry it in the woods or on private property, I think this law specifically refers to carrying them in public.

True, but I already have a hunting knife, and I got a sharpfinger on the way. So I don't need the Izula. But I might pick one up sometime anyway, so I can see what Rat Cutlery is all about.

NC allows citizens to obtain concealed carry permits. Whether that covers knives or not I don't know. Here in Ky it covers any deadly weapon you could imagine.

You do NEED an Izula, you just don't know it because you don't have one

You might be right. :D

I'm pretty sure in NC even if you have a concealed carry permit you still can't carry a knife that is normally illegal. It's sounds stupid I know, too bad you can't like apply for a concealed fixed blade permit.

Ok so I just went to a local gun shop to check out some of their knives, nothing impresive, but I did pick up some info. The owner of the shop assured me that small fixed blade carry is perfectly legal in NC, I told him how I read the laws and what it said. He said as long as it's not a bowie or double edged it's legal. He showed me a small Ka-Bar TDI and said that it would be legal to carry. So......I'm still on the edge with this one (pun intended :p).

In GA, according to several LEO, almost any length knife can be carried but if used in a crime then if it's over a certain length it's a felony crime. Look at defensivecarry.com, they have an 'edged weapons' section and I remember seeing something there on NC laws. Handgunlaw.us also has a link on knife laws.

Thanks for the links! I'm checkin them out right now.

BUMMER! It really looks like there is no concealed fixed blade carry in NC. Now I think I could carry it openly but that causes alot of strange looks. Especially if I want to openly carry a TDI.

Yep, I just slowly and carefully read my states knife laws and I can defilently carry a fixed blade knife openly. The only blade I can carry concealed is a pocket knife, I think I will begin open carrying a fixed blade, possible an Izula.

seniordep, I'm not sure where you are located in NC, but if you go to Raleigh check out a gun shop called Davi's. They have a huge knife collection with a lot of high end knives and customs.
