Below is a picture of a project I am working on. I wanted to spruce up my Izula by making some full-sized wooden scales for it.
I would love to hear some input from you guys as to how you think I should attach the scales after I get them to the shape that I want. I would like to use the old screws if possible. Shotgunner11 in the ESEE forum had a great idea to make a spacer the same thickness as the knife, and to glue it to one scale (to prevent slippage). I was also curious about using pins, but I have no experience with them and I understand it would include a lot of sanding.
Some info on the project:
I cut this wood from a local source. It is Hawaiian Kiawe, a species of Mesquite. I decided to use this wood because it is the hardest stuff that I know of, and I can get ahold of it rather easily. It is a bear to work with though
.

Thanks in advance for your help,
as usual pictures are welcome
(I have seen some amazing Izula scales around here before. Its what inspired me
