Izula Handle Inserts Question

I was wondering if some of you guys could share your experience with the micarta handle inserts for the Izula. I received mine on Monday and have been debating whether or not to get the inserts or to do a wrap on it. I was hoping someone could go into the performance aspect of the handles vs inserts, not so much the visual, although those opinions are welcome too. Thanks for sharing your experience and wisdom.
 
I prefer to wrap my Izula's.

The scales would feel a lot better to me if they covered the entire handle area like they do on the Izula II.

The grip doesn't feel right to me with the partial scales.
 
I like the Izula scales .
I went back to the Izula w/scales From the Izula II & a Izula cordage wrapped.
 
i don't have scales on mine, but i don't think i'd prefer them. i did a paracord wrap on my handle and i really love my izzy just the way it is. i just wrapped from the bottom of the blade to the loop. i didn't wrap the loop and i really like the clean look and the feel of the knife like that.

I agree. For someone with smaller hands I definitely think they would feel better but for my sasquatch hand they don't do much for me either way.

If you cord wrap your Izula, wrap the blade in tape don't leave it in the sheath.

Yea Ive heard some of the horror stories about wrapping it in the sheath, thanks for the reminder. :p
 
i've used the cord wrap and a few days ago i got the handle inserts, i like the grip from both but the wrapped grip feels more solid to me than the inserts do. I'd love it if they made full handle inserts for the izula like they did for the izula 2
 
You'll just have to see what you like. If you process a lot of game, the scales or bare knife won't soak up blood and guts like the paracord will.

I tried paracord, gutted paracord, leather strap - right now I EDC it bare. It slips into my pocket and barely know it's there. When I had it wrapped, the wrap would get hung up on my pocket lining. If I'm going to belt carry I'll carry my larger HEST or RC5.
 
I like the scales because they're removable, but I don't think they really offer that much more grip than a good wrap. Maybe a little more comfortable. I didn't really like how they left the pommel exposed though, felt kind of weird, so I wrapped the end of it up with the scales still attached.
 
the scales to me feel a little weird, like its incomplete or something idk. I greatly prefer the paracord over the scales but I wish I could get a bit more grip out of the paracord. Also when you're wailing on the knife it helps to have the paracord on so you don't mess up those good looking scales
 
I really like my scales. They give me a nice hand filling grip. Also much easier to keep clean. Paracord picks up lots of stuff over time and use.
 
I prefer the scales on my Izula, because I was always crappy at arts and crafts and probably would do a lousy wrap job.
