I just received a brand new Izula II. I mean I just opened it. My first reaction is wow!. My second is why are they so enamored with a giant hole in the scales?

The hole in the original Izula after you added the micarta scales was kind of okay because that's all anyone knew. I saw the picture of the giant hole in the Izula II but all I really paid attention to was that extra 1/2" of handle and the micarta that went all the way around.

I really like the original but I thought the new one would be the cat's meow. It is. I love it. It has everything I liked about the original and it fits my hand better... right up until my pinky drops into that gigantic hole.

It won't stop me from loving it and using it but it does keep it from being perfect. I really hope they have some brilliant reason for the hole. Maybe someone had the idea of using a tow chain for a lanyard.

I'm going to take it out in the snow tomorrow and play. Huge hole and all:)

It's for blowing bubbles with it, like a bubble wand.

That and it gives it the trademark look, feel and flow of the original. ;)

So, you didn't see a picture of the Izula-II before you bought it? :D

Well, does that bubble thing really work? I bet my nephew would like that. I think I should get him one.

I agree with whats been said about the hole being an identifying trademark of the izula series. Without it, it seems it would be something else. I just got mine for Vday and I am in love with it. Its amazing how much of a difference the extra length adds to the knife. As much as I love my Izula-1, the -2 will see most of the fun. That is until I find the need for a good thrower ;)

I use mine as a sighting device for detecting alien spacecraft.

Yep and the whole is real obvious when you see a picture of the knife :)

I like the hole a lot. My pinky goes right to it and gives me a more secure grip. This knife fits my hand better than any knife I own...and that's saying a lot.

Pinky loops, rings, holes have been a feature of "trout & bird" style knives for years (decades?). How can that feature be trademarked after other knifemakers have used it for so long?

It can't and we're not trying to. I think the post said "trademark look" meaning it is readily associated with us on small tactical knives. Others are using it too though. ;)
