Izula II Vs 3 Mil

Is the 3mil just an expensive version of the Izula II with a touch more blade, or am I missing something? I'm close to pulling the trigger on the 3mil, but starting to think I should go with the 4mil. Would be concealed carry.

There isn't a 4MIL, just a 3MIL.

The 3MIL is a completely different animal than the Izula or Izula II. The blade is thinner, longer and wider on the 3MIL. The handle is different, sheath system is different and includes the molle back and molle locks.

The Izula is a smaller knife overall. I use my 3MIL as a CCW blade worn just behind my spare mag at about 8:00 position from time to time.

All great knives. The Izula carries more comfortably because it is smaller obviously. The strengths of one is the weakness of the other so to speak. It depends what role the knife will play for you. The 4 is my favorite ESEE blade at this point, but I generally keep it to woods use.

The 3 mil also has the canvas micarta handles, not the linen normally on the 3. The canvas has more texture, at least it does on my 5 and Junglas.

Also, the philosophy behind the knives are also very different. The scales on the Izzy II are more of an "after thought". The Izzys are originally more of a small neck knife type design, with a skeletonized handle. A lot of folks (myself included) bought the Izzy, and wrapped them in paracord. Handle scales are added as "standard" to the design of the Izzy II after the optional scales for the original Izzula's add-on scales turned out to be a big hit. The Izula II is basically the same knife as the original Izula, but with an extra 1/2" in the handle.

The 3Mil is designed to be a full-handle blade from the get-go. very different knife.

I was excited about the izula II, but after buying it, i returned it for the Izula and wrapped the handle in paracord. Then, the next knife i bought was the 3mil. Both the izula with paracord and the 3mil feel better than the Izula II, in my opinion.

wow, I'm surprised by this. I honestly think the Izula-II might be the most comfortable of all my knives. (Izula, Izula-II, 3MIL, 4, and 6)

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them, TBH.

You beat me to it, I was thinking the same thing when I read, "The scales on the Izzy II are more of an after thought" I could not disagree more. I have both an Izula II and an ESEE-3Mil and I like the way the Izula II feels much better than the 3Mil. Then again, it's all opinion.

I think I'm confused more than ever. :D

ETA: Are the handles on the Izula II and 3mil the same length?

Ha ha! Yep, it's all about personal preference with ESEE's but it's hard to go wrong with any of them. Here is a comparison pic of the Izula II and ESEE-3MIL with my 4 and a HEST thrown in for good measure. :D

i see that you're in texas...if you live near houston you could go to one of their dealers and handle the knives yourself...

The Izula II is easily one of the most comfortable knives I have ever handled. Even more comfortable than my custom grips built for my hands by me. And while I aint no genius they came out well. Afterthough... if so the most comfortable and funtional afterthought ever.

Depending on your local laws the ESEE-4 is my favorite knife. I EDC mine all the time except for 2hrs sunday morning and 1hr sunday evening because I don't like to wear a suite coat all the time and not everyone can contain their excitement/fear at seeing a 4" fixed blade.

Between the Izula II and the ESEE-4 I say YES!

God bless,
Adam

The handle scales on the Izula-II are slightly thicker than the add-on scales for the original Izula. But - you could have kept the Izula-II, removed the handle scales and added a paracord wrap to the longer handle...
