I picked up an Izula last year as my first RAT (ESEE) knife and thought it worked really well for how small it was. Very sharp, quite tough and I liked all the goodies that came with the kit. I wanted to put the little ferro rod in the handle and wrap it with paracord but the rod is just barely too long and the card that came with the knife was a bit to short for what I wanted to do.
I had some extra paracord and with a little modification I was able to put together a rather nice little emergency kit.
(The ferro rod is inside the handle.)
I cut off the end of the rod where the small hole is, and it fits in the scale just perfectly.
I put the whistle/cord-end on the end of the paracord and was pretty happy with how it turned out.
That is, until they came out with the Micarta scales.
Just picked them up today, in fact the other images are of me taking my original wrap off the knife to add the scales.
They are just as nice as I'd hoped. They really make it a nice little fixed blade, perfect for my PSK.
BladeHQ.com has a storefront about 10 min from my home. So I grabbed the scales and an ESEE fire kit to add to my PSK as well. It's perfect!
While I was there I held an ESEE-3... I'm thinking that'll be my next knife!
Cheers!
