Do you utilize the standard plastic sheath or have you gotten a Kydex sheath? What are your thoughts on neck carry with Kydex versus Plastic. Is a Kydex a much lower profile than the standard sheath? Thanks to all who post.

i use the standard sheath and its pretty low profile i don't see that there would be much of a difference between the standard and a kydex sheath other than looks

How low does the knife hang? Also what are you using as the necklace material (Paracord?) Thanks.

There are some that say the retention of the plastic Izula sheath is a lot harder than on most Kydex sheaths, which might make a different in neck carry since you don't want to brush up against something and have the knife come out of the sheath.

I have both the standard pastic OEM sheath and a custom kydex sheath. The plastic one has better retention, but the kydex is so much slimmer and cooler that I had to get one. I do tend to carry the standard, though, because the blade "clicks" into place and feels more secure.

As for how low it wears, I utilize a double fisherman's knot on my paracord to allow for adjustment as needed (they slide back and forth and stay were you want if tied correctly):

Kydex offers a SLIGHTLY thinner profile and SLIGHTLY lighter weight. It'll produce less printing under a shirt.

A properly designed kydex sheath can have any level of retention that you might want. I've made them loose for pocket carry so the knife can be "thumbed" out of the sheath and so tight that it'll leave a red mark on the back of your neck from the paracord.

Some folks are wary of knotted paracord for the fear of accidental hanging. In those cases, I've made up paracord sheathing covered ball chains for easy breakaway. For my personal sheaths, I just knot the paracord as I see little chance of being hung by it.

All that said, the stock sheath is a fantastic design with multiple mounting options and alot of flexability for accessories. Kydex has it's advantages but so does the stock option.

Made one myself, carry it every day.
I think that a decent kydex sheath complements this knife.

The stock one will work though, is versatile and keeps the price down.

both! my wife's and my mom's Izulas are both being carried in their stock sheaths. my little sister's Izula is being carried in a 2 Munkeez sheath. the only reason the other two are still being carried in the stock sheath is because i haven't had time to knock out their sheaths, yet. i prefer my kydex sheaths to the stock Izula sheath, hands down.

there are some threads on here with pics of some guys factory sheaths after they've trimed the two holes and slot off the side for strictly neck use. takes some cutting and sanding but shouldn't be hard.

hadn't seen the double waterknot before. i've got just standard water knots in my necker rigs and they're always slipping. looks like i'll be retying some knots in the morning.
