Well, i suppose since this is my first post i should introduce myself. Hi, I am Ryan ;)

anyways, i been edc'ing some sorta folder for a couple years now (sak highlander and more recently a dozier folding hunter) and I am looking foward to my first fixed blade.

I have narrowed things down to either the izula or the becker bk 11 and i thought i would ask which folks prefered and why (ideally a few people will have them both).

the way i understand it the necker is a little bigger but the handle is an issue for some and the izula has a smaller blade but a more comfortable handle ..

so, i figure the best thing is to ask those who know

thanks in advance
Ryan

look into the becker EsKabar, it is an ESEE/becker collab which has the becker blade with the izula handle ;)

I just got a BK11 (KaBar)...it replaces the Camillus one I had quite a while back, sure wish I knew where it was.

It is a great little knife and I can recommend it highly.

Dont know about the Izula, never owned one but it is definitely on the "to get" list.

Hello, welcome. I have had the oppurtunity to try the Becker out and i did not like the cutout on butt of handle, it kind of poked and annoyed me.... Havent tried the Izula yet but i will in a couple days, just ordered 1 last night, hope this was helpful...

yeah i saw that
and i would be interested

but i dont think i have the patience to wait for it to come out :D
kinda getting geeked out about getting my first fixed blade ya know :p

I've had both and I got rid of the Izula. I got the scales for the Izula and everything, but I didn't like the smaller blade. For me, the Becker is perfect size. I have smaller hands so the bottle opener doesn't hit my palm wrong. I also happen to like the bottle opener, though many do not.

To be honest, I could never bring myself to carry either one regularly though. I just don't find a neck knife all that comfortable. I'm very rarely in a situation where I don't have a pocket to carry a folder with (or a belt to carry a fixed blade) and the pocket carry for either one didn't work for me.

Izula for me. Just got one and its much better than expected. Sharp, grippable, and easy to carry. I wasn't impressed with the sheath, though.

I have the BK 11 and love it, bottle opener and all, though my hands are on the large side. I haven't handled the Izula, but it has a large and vocal following on Bladeforums.

yeah, so what i gathering is that, people like them both and that its a personal choice.
so i went ahead and ordered the becker bk11 (was cheaper from amazon hehe), hopefully it will be here by friday.

thanks for all that commented

They are both excellent and similar knives. It would be great if you could handle one of each before deciding. That's what I did. My hands are large and the Becker felt better to me so that's what I went with.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat but I just scrolled up and see you already bought the Becker. Rock on! :D

:D I have an Izula knife already and I like it very much. I think the becker might be longer though, so I want to get one asap.:D

I bought both and the scales for both, and i carry my izula every day. The becker is good, and if the izula didnt exist i'd probably carry that every day, but for me the becker only comes out at parties.

yeah i would have loved the opportunity to handle both.
but there wasnt really an chance to do so.

my hands are a large average (not huge or anything) so i figured that the bk 11 would e a better fit for me, time will tell.

hopefully it will be here come friday or saturday so i can see for myself its a good fit

oh and i wont lie, the cheaper price went a long way into my decision :D

I see that you've ordered the BK-11. I'm sure you'll like it, it has more blade and the nifty bottle opener. The only thing I'd like to point out is that it is a bit on the large side for neck carry, so I would recomend checking out the TDI belt clip that is made to perfectly fit the BK-11, and allows the knife to be worn on a belt or clipped to anything you want without adding bulk to the sheath. That way it can still easily be carried in your pocket (or around the neck) just as comfortably. :)

here's a pic of it with the clip and cordwrap .....the cordwrap makes for a more comy grip too IMHO.
