Which is better in your opinion, Izula by ESEE or Bk11 by Ka-bar? I need a good neck knife, both seem to be pretty well made. Please include lowest prices if you know where is the cheapest and show pics if you have them. If you know of any good alternatives that aren't too small please post about them as well.

Personally, I'd wait a little while till the BK-14 Brat comes out. Becker BK-11 blade with the Izula handle. They should be out soon.

I like the izula more, which is why I have one. The new hybrid model should be interesting too, but ESEE's warranty is second to none.

I like the Izula more, but if you're torn between the two then wait for the Becker Brat.

I, too, am interested in this. What steel are they using for the BK-14?

1095 Cro-Van, with Beckers excellent heat treat.

This was something cooked up between Jeff Randal and Ethan Becker, and they're both sticklers for good steel and heat treats.

the BK-14 should be very interesting...but out of the two you listed, i would go with the izula...i like the looks better an the warranty is outstanding!

yeah sounds like the BRAT would be your best bet, but i have the izula and like it quite a bit.

I was also wondering which was a better kneck knife.

I have my benchmade instigator, but i dont think it locks into the sheath well enough to hang up side down, so its my boot knife now.

I might just get a Michal Morris custom File Necker instead, price is about the same. (and he said he'd make mine a clip point so it would be a little deadlier)

What does the Becker Brat look like? I just went to their site and they had nothing.

Thanks,

Al

I have the Becker and you get a lot of blade for the overall size. The trade-off is a slightly short handle. That keeps it compact for a knife with so much blade. The Izula seems balanced in favor of handle over blade. I've come to the conclusion that I want more handle in a fixed blade since it's always the additional knife for me, since there's usually a moderately sized folder in my pocket.

I have the becker bk11 and love it. It is one of my favorite blades but I have never handled an izula. That may be a good knife too but for 35 bucks I am really happy with my bk11.

I think I remember reading somewhere that they are coming out with a stainless, or at least a more stain resistant version of the Izula. Or was that just my imagination?

They are. It will be in 440c if memory serves me right.

Yup--you nailed it. In the meantime if anyone wants a well-built Izula-like fixed blade in stainless I recommend the TOPS Shango. It's a great little knife and has a larger handle than the Izula. I love (and carry) both.

I just traded for an izula so from the looks and the awesome reviews on it I would say that would be my pick. I also have read that Esee warranty is the best in the business.

I have both. The BK-11 has a larger blade and a nifty bottle opener, it is also cheaper at around only $31 shipped. I also like that you can get the optional TDI belt clip that fits perfectly on it's sheath and allows you to clip it anywhere.

The drawbacks are that I can only get three fingers on the BK-11's handle, and even though it sharpens easily, for some reason mine will not hold a razor edge very well. (it gets dulled just from taking it in and out of its sheath a few times)

For $10 to $15 more I like the Izula a little better. It's a bit more comfy in my hand, I like the blade geometry better, and even though they are both 1095 steel for some reason my Izula holds an edge much better.:)

-I didn't like the thick rough coating on the Izulas blade, but that is easily fixed with some sandpaper and a bit of elbow grease. -And I would like it better if there were a small usable clip for it like there is for the BK-11.
