Izula or Izula II

Sorry, I am sure this has been done, before but.....

I am getting one or the other to use AS A NECK KNIFE. I have bought the standard Izula (as gifts), a few times, put the standard micarta scales on them, and borrowed them. So, I have a little reference but it was awhile ago.

I know I would like a little extra handle but that could be achieved by using the G10 (full length) scales on a standard Izula. My first thought is to get the "2" (and maybe even some TKC scales for it) but what i am trying to figure out is - Will that extra 1/2" of handle length make it noticeably less convenient as a neck knife?

Anyone worn both on the neck? Big difference? Clunkier?

Thanks.

I have both. Also the full size G10 scales for standard Izula. But to be honest, don't like either for neck wear. For me, the little Candiru with scales is more palatable. But then, neck wear is not my favorite in the first place. Much prefer back pocket slip.

In terms of general usage, my Izula and Candiru get pretty equal carry time overall. My Izula II gets the least for some reason.

Should add, I have carried all of them around the neck at times. But quickly found the larger models to be a bit heavy for my taste. That said, if you don't mind the weight, the extra handle length would really just come down to hand size and personal preference. The tiny handle of the Candiru is definitely a trade off, which is why I almost always keep the handles on it for grip.

I’m an Izula I owner and I’m quite happy with it. I just toss mine in my jeans pocket however as I’m not fond of neck carry. Good ole paracord greatly improved ergonomics and a positive grip.

I think either model will serve you well. I would lean more towards the Izula II since it adds 0.5” to the handle which will give you greater control over the knife, especially of you have large-ish hands. I don’t think the additional half-inch will give you any problems. If you don’t like the scales that come with the II, you can simply remove it and replace it with paracord for less printing when worn under the shirt.

More handle is more weight, even if it's slight I imagine you could sense the difference if your neck is bearing the weight. But like others I am not fond of neck carry and don't regularly do it.

It really depends on your body an how well it sits flat. I'm not a fan of neck carry either, always runs the back of my neck, and don't like how it swings every time I bend down.

+6 or 7 or whatever for not liking neck carry.
It's not so much that it's uncomfortable as it is I don't feel safe having something around my neck like that.
I spend a lot of my time in front of & alongside of power tools (table saw, drill press, miter saw, track saw, etc) & I got to thinking how bad it would suck to have my ace pulled into a spinning saw blade.

I'd go with the one you think would be better carried - other than neck carry.

I use the Izula with extended TKC (the knife connection) G10 scales. It’s a little big for neck carry to me. I scout carry it daily but it can run a bit small for some tasks. I’ve seen some ppl carry it in the original esee plastic sheath with parachord attached and ran through the belt. The knife rests in a pocket and when you need it pull on the parachord to retrieve the knife. I tried neck carry With it but it’s a bit heavy and I’m barrel chested so it profiles more easily. Had it come unsheathed a few times while carrying boxes out in front of me against my chest. I don’t own the Izula II but would get that if I was buying it over again.

I spend most of my day with a RIFLE hanging around my neck. The knife won't bother me.

They won't be worn at the same time (if I am wearing my rifle, I have a folder or a small fixed in my tac vest). On the few occasions I have neck carried an (original) Izula, I LOVED IT because I didn't have to get dressed. Basketball shorts, a wife beater, flip flops, and a neck knife. I often throw a belt on over my gym clothes (sweats or Bball shorts) even tho they have no belt loops, just so I can hang a knife or pistol. Some times, I don't feel like putting on clothes (or even a belt) but I always put on a knife. Plus, it is "Sting Bling" (jewelry.... but with a point) kinda why I want the TKC scales. I could easily use the standard scales..... but I wouldn't look quite as good doing it :D

I drive a beater. I live in a nice but modest house. I wear a rubber wedding band (might just get it tattoo'd). I almost never wear a watch BUT..... I have about 1300 in my carry piece and a suppressed SBR for the car. I am a total sucker for slick gear and a neck knife just seems wicked kule. Especially if, when I am dressed, i have the "5" on my belt, the Izzy on my neck BOTH with Midnight Tiger scales. I'd be so fly lol
