Hey guys,

just came back from some snowboarding in switzerland and gave my izula a spin in the wild. Built a snare trap as an excercise and a little fire by collecting some tinder while hiking in and lighting it with my firesteel.

Great day, about -2 Celcius, loads of snow and some relaxed cutting in the sun. The warmth of the sun actually turned out to be good since it took me a good while to get the fire going, didn't really feel like cutting the kindling to get some good surface area on the wood, so it took a long time to catch fire, but that wasn't a problem with me getting a good sun tan in the meantime :)

It's in the four valleys (quatre vallees) near veysonnaz at about 2000 meters and it was very nice out there.

enjoy the pics guys.

Nice looking snare. I have them all over my property in various forms: shoe laces, monofiliment, guitar string, paracord. I never catch a darn thing. I'm beginning to think Bear Grylls is full of crap.

Maybe you just have really smart critters in your area :)

Snares need to be sent free camouflaged and in a run. You might get lucky if you don't do all that but it will increase your odds. Wire works good because it holds little sent and is hard to see.

true, tnx for adding that. you might use some smoke to mask scents on your trap.

I tore this one down immediately after building it, as I said, it was an excercise.

what do you mean by 'in a run'?

By run, I think he means a path the critters normally would take. You can also corral them in the right direction by sticking sticks in the ground and "funneling" them in towards your trap.

Sorry, more directed at people having trouble catching stuff.

That's it. I'll often take some small branches and just stuff them in any opening I don't want them to use.
