These two freebies are going to rc3mil for a little evaluation. He was one of the original people that inquired with me about pocket carry for the Izula and has been patiently waiting for me to come up with something different then just dropping a sheath in your pocket.

The black one was my original idea but turned out to be difficult to execute and IMO is just to bulky to fit with the nature of the Izula. The second one (coyote brown) Is what I later came up with and I think this idea has potential. You only hook the sheath to the top of your pocket when the knife is in use which should allow for easy reinsertion. Otherwise, the whole deal rides down in your pocket.

I'm not obligating rc3mil to do anything other than I hope he'll at least shoot me an e-mail with his opinion on them.

I like the thought behind the Coyote sheath. I wonder how the Coyote sheath would react to a clip that could be brought down over the stitching of the pocket, much like a folder.

That was one of the ideas I considered, even ordered a metal clip to experiment with. It would have been similar to Shotgunner's idea here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=711659

The two issues I had were first, integrating the clip easily while preventing it from contacting the knife. Secondly, I didn't want it to ride high up out of the pocket. I'm not saying it can't be done but I don't think anyone's there yet.

if i had to pick hoopster i would go with the black sheath. i like how the whole package goes in the pocket. it also looks very secure. keep up the good work! :D

this is the only pic i could find

of a sheath like one i bought at the tulsa antique arms show last year
it was a factory "second" according to the gal i bought it from
used it for a custom knife i had with me
and it fit perfect so bought
anyhoos
i carry this one with sheath/knife inside front pocket, clip outside
just like a folder.
could this design be made from kydex?
seems with kydex it would be even slimmer as this one is heavy leather.
really like it as i can draw knife and sheath stays put
the metal clip is that tight on pocket material

btw those sheaths were $20 each and ifn id had the funds i woulda bought a bunch of them

That sheath is similar to what I was thinking and the clip looks identical to what I bought. It just seems at this point that leather is better suited for that design because you can easily isolate the metal clip from contacting the knife and it can also be slim enough for the leather to rub the knife when inserting it. With the kydex you have to allow enough space for the knife to be inserted and account for whether it's cord wrapped, etc. Not to mention that leather is flexible when empty to some degree whereas kydex will leave you with a hard bulky "container" in your pocket while you're using your knife.
I haven't given up on the concept completely. Maybe some of the other kydex wizards can comment on this.

maybe some leather and some epoxy? to cover the metal inside? i dunno-made lots of leather sheaths but none from kydex....have a few of those steel clips meself. maybe time to get some kydex and start messing round...it would take me some time to ketchup as you do such a good job-love that izula sheath. its perfect. so slim i hardly know its in my pocket. that randall sheath i have is pretty derned stiff...very thick heavy leather with little flex. hhmmm

That's why I went with style #2. It's just as slim but easy to access when your done using your knife. Plus, it will completely conceal unlike a pocket clip. I want to keep it as simple as possible but won't rule out the possibility of someone coming up with the "ultimate" Izula pocket sheath with a clip.

well hoopster the only thing i dont like about sheath 2 is that it goes entirely in the pocket, now for me at least, that wouldnt fly because of laws restricting the concealing of FB's it also looks harder to make.
besides that it looks great

i like the idea behind the black one myself. if you put a hole nearer to the top, you could screw a clip on there, without touching the blade. (and it'd be ambi, for those southpaw freaks. :D)
