OK, I received my new OD Izula (along with scales) in the mail today, and I have to say that I finally understand the hype. And with this receipt, I think I officially have become an ESEE fanboy.

This is a really well-sized knife, for me. I tend to shy away from neck knives, because all too often they are too undersized to actually be useful. The one other true neck knife that I have gotten that was a useful size was the old Camillus ARC, I think it was called. It has a little longer blade than the Izula, and is D2. But where it falls WAY short of the Izula is in the better designed sheath of the Izula, and the option of micarta scales. That is what really puts the Izula over the top for me. I don't know that i'll actually use it as a neck knife, but it WILL do quite well for me in deer harvesting, I'm sure.

I will concede the point that someone else made, I think in the "wrap vs. scales" thread, that with the scales, it feels somewhat like it you're just gripping a three-finger knife. But I wouldn't want the scales to cover the hole at the butt of the knife. I'm sure that hole will be useful in retaining the knife during "deer operations." :D

So, why do I think this makes me an official fanboy? Well, in about the past 5 weeks, I've purchased two ESEE-4's, a HEST, an RC-3, and now an Izula. Lord help me.

Congrats on the buy. I've been wearing my Izula on my belt since buying it and finally ordered some scales for it yesterday.

Yeah, I haven't decided how I want to wear it. I tried it as a neck knife for a while today. Did pretty good, but for the most part I've just stuck it in my back pocket like a wicked little comb. :D

I'm not sure where I saw it, but someone had a custom leather sheath for their Izula that fits nicely in the back pocket. Wish I could remember which thread it was on?! Kind of reminded me of a wallet...

...anyway, I said that to say this: I like slipping mine into my back pocket too.

Welcome to the madness :) Unless you go out and use those babies you arent allowed the fanboy title. A ESEE knife unused is a ESEE wasted, save for the RP knives.
:D

Just got my Izula yesterday (same color as the OP too) and couldn't be more impressed. I may never use a folder while camping again! My only complaint is racking my brain trying to figure where the best place to put the sheath would be (belt/pack/neck/other). I still can't believe the quality of everything for the price I paid. As funds allow and needs dictate, I can see this first ESEE being joined by others.

*tips hat to ESEE*

the large hole on the Izula was design for a carabiner or similar to just clip it to your pack or belt loop /whatever and go

Not a bad idea there, on the hole in the Izula. I think it is going to end up either a (back) pocket knife, or a necker.

That custom sheath by Cricket Dave looks AWESOME for back pocket carry. It looks like an ESEE version of the AG Russell Woodswalker sheath.

It is awesome, the quality is great, Dave really does an excellent job. We talked about the sheath for maybe 5 minutes and the Woodswalker sheath was mentioned as being one of my favorite all time sheaths. This sheath is head and shoulders above it. I used to carry a Woodswalker all squirrel season. The Cricket Dave rig has knocked it out of rotation. I guess I'll pass the Woodswalker on to my 10yo son. This is going to be his first squirrel season. As to doing neck or back pocket sheath why not do both? I carry the Izula in my back pocket rig when I am not at work (I work as an paramedic and I work in the ER part time) theses places tend to frown on a obviously visible knife. So at work I carry my Izula in a custom Kydex sheath made by Mr Shotgunner (another fine quality sheath by the way) and when I am bumming around its a back pocket knife. With the right sheaths the Izula excels at either application. You cant go wrong with an Izula no matter how you carry it the only advice I can give is to carry it.

Great knife.
I'm still not decided that it is my favorite. I think that (right now) still goes to the ESEE-4. But, it is another one from ESEE that is just right.

And... I might end up getting another one... or two. My daughter (3 years, 8 months) saw it around my neck and wanted to check it out. Couldn't, since it is razor sharp. But she said, "Maybe when I get older, I can have a knife on a necklace." :D

Every once in a while, my 3 starts to move toward the favorite spot, but the 4 is still reigning supreme. There is a reason it was my first. I might have to get one in tan next. Might strip and patina it. Canvas micarta and a stripped blade. Oooh la-la. :D

Welcome to our obsession! I think the Izula is one of the handiest, and practical knives ever made.

I've about decided it works best as a neck knife. It is JUST light enough to make it without being too distracting. I'm trying now to decide whether to just keep it on the "dog-tag" chain, or try to rig up something else.
