I just got in my new DT Izula, with factory edge it will shave hair and cut paper clean. (that's all I've done with it to test blade)..

My black Izula was also bought new with factory edge and it would NOT cut paper, this left me more then stoked to say the least when I bought this knife last year.. I reprofiled the blade, convexed it and now its becoming one of my favorite carry knives surpassing even my beloved folders.. I have used and abused this knife (primarily on wood) and it still shaves hair and slices paper cleanly.

I realize the Izula's are a production knife, but when I heard so much hype about them I guess I was expecting much more from the black one out of the box.. Maybe mine just happened to be one that was skipped on the final sharpening? I have no idea.. The DT one is exactly what I was expecting from this knife..

Both made from the same company at different times. The black one is a 5800 model and the DT is 7900.. Anyone else with similar situation..?

both esee knives ive own(ed) were scarey sharp right out of the box. Just like most companies, not all knives will be the same sharpness.

I just got Izula #9933 and it's shaving sharp right out of the box.....err bag.:)

well they are hand sharpened, and since humans are perfect there might be a few that arent super sharp out of the bag. i say you just use and sharpen it. but if it bother you, you could send it back and get a new one.

I've had 4 Izulas and all could shave hair from the factory. I'm sure there are exceptions though.

I got a 4 once that wouldn't shave...

I have lots of others though, and they all did.

My Izula was easily the sharpest production knife that I've ever gotten. It was shaving arm hair with ease.

na no bother here, was just curious as the relief cut is really a lot higher then the black one, its just the way I like it.. cuts through paper like mad.... now i just gotta figure a wrap for it and its gonna be a work horse, still trying to find the ultimate carry method..

I noticed this as well. I don't know what number my RAT Izula is because I wrapped it as soon as I got it. The latest ESEE Izula I bought seems to have a much better edge out of the box. The amount of edge exposed on my ESEE is much greater than the exposed edge on my RAT.
