Just got my first RAT a couple of weeks ago and I'm lovin it!

I do have a question though. In the circular hole at the end of the handle on my izula there are two bare spots in the coating. They are directly across from each other. Maybe thats where it was held as it was being coated? Is this normal?? Most coated objects that I have seen don't have such pronounced bare spots. Is this something I need to worry about rusting? I was going to wrap it in paracord but I don't want to cover it if I need to worry about it having moisture held against it by wet paracord.

Thanks!

mine is the same way so I think it's from the coating process. why would you be more worried about those small spots rusting then all the engraving? my advice is don't worry about it, but if you do, just put some oil of some kind on the spots when you put it on the engraving

I just rubbed some beeswax in open spots (most of which came from hard use) and never had any problems.

Mine also had two spot in the same locations, I don't think it will cause a problem.

I check it every time I change out the para cord (I like to dress up my little baby with different colored para every so often).

I love the beeswax idea.

Thanks for the opinions. I was most interested in finding out if this is normal for the izula or I might have an anomaly in the coating process. I'll coat it with some something and move on to using it :)

This really is a great knife.

Back when CRKT put out the fixed blade version of the KISS I wanted one. Unfortunately never got one before they discontinued them. This is a better designed KISS on steroids! Looking forward to finding all of the ways to use it.

Yep, definitely normal, and you are correct in stating that it is from when they coated it. I even have some Busse neck knives similar to the Izula that have the same thing. Just FYI I have had my Izula for close to a year and have not put anything on the bare spots. I just looked at it now and not even an indication of rust. I wouldn't worry about it. Just go out and use that sucker.
