IZULA Sheath Options

Tomorrow I'm getting my first RAT knife - the IZULA and I'm very excited about it.

I carry a folder every day, but response time should be much quicker with a small fixed blade - IMHO.

I realize that I can spend more and get a customized sheath made, but I wanted to know a couple of things first if anyone would be so kind.

I got the "kit" so I'm not sure how that all works until I have it in hand.

I like to carry things with or w/o a belt, like pistol holsters that clip on you trousers and the pistol is inside your waistband.

Can the IZULA sheath be mounted to a Tek-Lok and would this work in the way I'm describing?

Also, if it would work, what size Tek-Lok would I need? I understand that they come in small and large.

And finally, if a Tek-Lok worked, how would I attach it to the supplied sheath?

Thanks a lot :)

Tek loks only work with a belt and they attach with supplied hardware. You might be able to find a belt clip that fits but I'm not sure what size the Izula sheath is, large or small tek lok.

Just did a search and found that blade tech does have a clip, or klip, for the belt.

It's a stretch but you might be able to attach the small tek-lock to a belt loop. Otherwise, it's meant to clip over a belt. If you really like to carry without a belt, try neck carry. I thought it was silly until I tried it. While not as quick as a clipped pocket folder, my neck knife is always on regardless of how many times I change pants.
I tried it with paracord at first but it irritated my skin and I was concerned about the choking hazard. I found out that ball chain was the way to go. It's comfortable and safe. I usually can't even tell it's on now that I'm used to it. There is even black ball chain if you're in to the tactical stuff. Once you've got the Izula, half of the fun is figuring out you're favorite way to carry it.

Another point is the tek-lok is pretty expensive IMO for what you get. I think it's around $9 for the small one. OUCH!

I saw that dude - a forum member's YouTube video on the IZULA sheath and he had to cut the sides off to conform to the blade, for use as a neck knife.

I'll have to think about it. One of my sons is getting me a large KA-BAR TDI with belt lock clip so I can experiment with that maybe. Doesn't sound promising.

On a positive note, I've heard the Izula's sheath fits snugly in a pocket carry.

Maybe RAT Cutlery will come out with some various carry solutions beside the Molle clip and paracord in the future?

Cutting down the stock sheath is certainly a viable option but IMO one of the real advantages of kydex over the plastic one is that you don't have to navigate the plastic nubs when resheathing the knife. If you get the tip in you're set. With the plastic nubs you have to be centered or you take slices off little by little. I love the sound of the snap with the factory sheath but the kydex is just more user friendly.

you can attach the rc-3 boot clip to the izula factory sheath. two screws is plenty sturdy, and it pocket carries just fine.(i still have my tape measure clip in case i change my mind.)

Hi otis williams,

What's an rc-3 boot clip? And for that matter, what the heck is kydex? I thought is was the same as the zytel. How does it keep the knife in solidly?

I've been carrying it around in my pocket and forget it's there! It still deploys faster than a folder.

I re-profiled it and stropped the heck out of it. Wickedly sharp now.

it's a boot clip designed to fit the rc-3 sheath. the holes line up on the izula, though.

they offer 'em for sale on the rat cutlery website.

Thanks! Will it stay in the pocket stiff enough to pull the knife out of the sheath or do you still need your thumb to assist?

I'm just guessing you'll need to use your thumb but that's not really a big deal. When I first got my Izula I pocket carried and unsheathing was not the issue, it was resheathing when the sheath was at the bottom of my pocket. That and the fact that I already have too much stuff in my pockets.

yeah, i just push with my thumb as always, and it pops right out. resheathing is easier than just having it in the pocket. the black clip doesn't draw as much attention as the wide shiny steel clip i've been using.
