IZULA spine as a firesteel striker?

Just got my new izula yesterday, and I'm crushed that I can't get it to throw a good spark with my LFM firesteel. I've tried to take the black coating off of the back of the spine, and I've also tried to polish off some from the sides toward the back of the spine. I know it shouldn't matter so much, since I have the little striker that comes w/ the LMF steel, which works great. But I love the ability to throw a spark w the spine of a knife (my Mel Pardue Griptilian throws an AMAZING spark with the spine, and w/ the blade closed-I love that!). Anyway, is there any hope for throwing a good (or GREAT) spark w my Izula? Tips on getting there? Thanks to all! William

Have you tried using the thumb serrations? I had no trouble getting a spark using them....

I used a round mini file to remove the coating from the choil. It works great but you need one of the smaller firesteels from goinggear.
