Wow what a knife! Been putting a Esee Izula through its paces, doing things i would not normally do with a knife. As a way of comparison, used a custom cable steel bladed knife to cut through a heavy plastic wrapper around a new cell phone, which caused a quarter inch fold in blade edge. Completed job with
Izula. The job done, the Izula had no folds, and blade sharp as ever. Plastic seemed a lot thicker and stiffer then 2 liter coke bottle. Next had a light gauge metal box with a lid frozen shut, used cutting edge to pry it open with considerable effort the lid finally opened. The blade still sharp had no nicks rollovers or damage. Used the knife months before trying the above. People on this forum have debated buying other neck knives because they felt there were
better steels available in other neck knives. Esee 1095 is all i could ask for and then some. Wonder how Esee fixed blades would do as a hunting knife? They have a tactical look and, never thought of them as a hunting knife. Anyone use an Esee for a hunting knife? Please let me know.
Thanks

Luckily, the deer never sees the knife coming.

I never used the Izula for hunting but I am sure I will in the future, I have used many knives of that general size and style. Fot deer hunting, a 3 inch blade is plenty.

Esee makes a 4 inch bladed knife rc-3 also looks like an other nice size for a hunting knife.

If cutting through a plastic package rolled the edge then there must have been a wire edge/ burr that folded over. Steel is much stronger and harder than plastic, even cheap steel.

Virtuovice on YouTube does. He's Japanese, so his English isn't great, but you'll get the idea. He is a hunter and harvests edible plants in the woods as well, and uses lots of different knives for it. He does reviews and commentary on lots of his blades. He has a microscope and does some videos of edges before and after sharpening in different ways. Good stuff.

I just picked up a Orange RC-3 on a trade, Just picked up a Izula the same way, Both are NIB. I had a RC-4 but somehow the size didn't quite agree with me. I still need a Six though:thumbup:

The edge that rolled over had a hollow grind put on by a knife maker with around forty years experience, also the roll over could be easily seen with the naked eye,a large roll over. I have heard that hollow grinds have a small cutting edge, the roll over is about 5/8" long and 1/32" deep which seems like a lot of metal for a hollow grind or a wire edge. I am only guessing. You may have a good point. In any event i will see what i can do with the Edge Pro, if its a wire edge i will find out. Thanks for your information.

Don't forget to get a Junglas udtjim! :)

Actually there's a thread on the ESEE board about the various #'s and the 6 is apparently the ideal "do it all" knife. A little too big for fine work and a little light for chopping. But it "can" do it all. Light, sharp, baton through wood. It's the one I don't have. :(

YEAH YEAH, so many knives, so little money.:D I might as well get used to the fact that my demand will always over run my supply, Of knife money that is.
