Izula vs "hard use" folder

Super tough folding knives are very popular, but usually they're not great slicers and are quite expensive.

It seems to me that carrying a small and thin folding knife in addition to a small fixed blade would work about as well and be cheaper overall.

How "strong" (holistically speaking) would you say an Izula or similar knife is compared to "tough" folding knives like ZTs and Striders and so forth?

The Izula would be much tougher. 57RC spring steel at .150 will be tougher than any .150 stainless at 58-60RC.

Yep, nothing like a fixed blade. No moving parts to wear out or break. Sharpen, oil and re use

I'm considering replacing my EDC folder with an Izula and a kydex pocket sheath. Fixed blades are highly underrated as EDC knives IMO.

No contest, izula for the win. 0.15" thick is a lot of meat and considerng the length to thickness ratio I have a hard time seeing how you can break this blade manually without using a cheater bard to leverage it. Also, folding blades are by definition already broken and held by a mechanical lock. There is simply no way a mechanical lock can hold to the same stress as a solid piece of steel.

I have a swiss army knife that I have carried every day for about 25 years, but I usually carry a heavier work knife as well.

I use to carrier a heavier folder but since I bought the Izula I can't ever see myself going back to a heavy folder. It is a great knife!

I carry mine like this:

I have a couple heavy use folders. They only get carried when I'm where there are too many sheeple.

I am currently stuck between choosing either the H.E.S.T. or the izula, or some other neck size knife. I really like the tad bit longer blade on the H.E.S.T.

I would MUCH rather have a small fixed blade than a folder.

I carry & use my Izula daily,my folders are in a drawer like kdg & samhain73 said for size and thickness & hardening the power is in the Izula it's the little blade that can!

I've found the Izula and a leatherman skeletool to be an unbeatable combo. The skeletool covers most work duties and has pliers and screwdrivers as well. The Izula works better for lunchtime prep and any hard use/down and dirty stuff that I want to protect the skeletool from.

Hey malada,

Where did you get that pocket sheath for the Izula? (The Izula) really looks like a comb handle in the 2nd pic.

I've sold off and traded off about 10-15 folders in the past 6 months. Only ones left are a Buck 110, a Vic OHT, a couple prized slippies and a Spyderco Pacific Salt that I'm trying to trade off.

The Izula is stronger, lighter and faster to deploy than the majority of folders.

I also always have a Leatherman Wave on my belt without fail.

Da Izula (in Mike Ditkas voice):D

I wouldn't know, mines still on back order:( hopefully I'll hear about it this week :)).

There are a lot of places with Izulas on hand, and fast shipping, that would love your business.
You could cancel and reorder?
You'll love the Izula...I just ordered my second, and want more.
I got mine on the bay.

I don't consider ANY folder to be a hard use knife no matter what they call it. I carry one everywhere I go but it doesn't come close to my fixed blades as far as durability and strength. The Izula wins hands down.
I agree about carrying a folder along with the fixed blade. It makes the small chores a little easier and provides some back up.
