Izula vs HEST

there's a pic or two of 'em in the photos thread up in the stickies, and a pic in the kydex: izula and hest thread... probably more in the old pics thread too. i'd link some but i'm on my phone

Here are some of the pics I took for the passaround a few months back.

The Izula and HEST are suprisingly close in physical dimensions.
They have a rather different feel though, I really didn't notice they were almost the same size until I did the side-by-sides.

Get the HEST, the handle is so much more superior in my opinion. It's plenty small for EDC and is just as easy to choke up on for detail work.

I should buy the "Izula_vs_HEST" URL :))

...and who added that ginzu knife to the comparison?? Maybe a better question is who else makes a legal carry EDC knife like the DPx H•E•S•T and retails a knife that tough, sharp and handy for under a 100 bucks...and guarantees it for life?

The hollow handle makes it light enough to be a necker and the almost 1/4" thick blade means you can hammer it like a tool without crying and most importantly its small enough to carry when a big knife would be silly.

So IMHO its the BIGGER knives you should be comparing it against, not the smaller ones.

I agree completely. I EDC it everyday, but then I also carry an Izula and an M9. Mr. Pelton, you'll be happy to know that my HEST is being used daily in a very dangerous place. (Iraq) Thank you for making a wonderful piece of steel!

Of course you should buy both. It should be Izula & HEST. If you have to pick just one I would go with the HEST. It gives you a little bigger thicker knife and you can take the handles off for more of a neck knife. But the storage in the handles is a nice feature too. I got my HEST first but then a few months latter I got an Izula. They are both awesome. My guess is what ever one you pick to buy now you will own the other in time.

I know people work for their money so its good to bounce these questions off the board. I think the DPx HEST is something you should look at when compared to a 6 or 4 inch knife. My whole life is about taking in the minimum amount of gear and making it all fit in a Becker Patrol. And if the shit hit the fan you had to hump every ounce of it out...while people were hunting you down. So (in my mind) I think the HEST is something you bring when you would like to bring that big 6 incher but would rather bring a firestarter and/or diamond stick to keep it razor sharp.

The Izula is a great knife for a handy everyday finger knife or necker. But if you need to school a 300lb drunk a HEST is going to stay in your hand and that thick blade is going to make a really sloppy mess for his friends to clean up. And he will still be alive the next day to wish he hadn't messed with you ;)

Get them both. Each has it own special feature. Izula EDC, whittling if you do that kind of stuff. HEST back packing, camping, Hunting etc. Keep my HEST in go bag, in my truck.
