A month or so ago a few of the guys clubbed together and bought one of the team a RAT-4 for his 30th. I was tasked with buying the knife, and after getting hands on it I was hooked.

Given I mostly use my blade for backpacking / hiking the Izula seemed like a great lightweight package that would perform.

I ordered the Izula along with some Micarta scales from knifesshipfree.com (who have awesome friendly service), and picked up some custom Kydex from Hoopster on these forums.

I've gone for a slightly bright theme on the Izula as to try and make the blade a bit more civi friendly (given we're legally on shakey ground carrying any fixed blades without good reason in the UK).

Still not sure on using paracord for the neck cord.

Great choice, I like the high contrast of knife and sheath. If your worried about carrying a fixed blade maybe you should draw less attention to it.

Very nice one mate! Yeah I'd be curious to know how you go about carrying this over here.
I tend to stay on the low impact side of things unless I am outdoor in the Peak or Lake Districts
Cool sheath too  to Hoopster

To be honest I tend to keep my blades in my pack until I get to a site. I generally consider this more palatable to police than carrying it on me. Additionally I don't wear a belt when hiking so it makes carrying a blade interesting. Likewise I don't like having things in my pockets when hiking as I find it tends to cause more chaffing if I'm covering distance. I like the idea of a neck knife from the point of view that I drop the blade over my head if needed whilst i'm working.

Deeds - I guess because it's mostly hidden in my pack I guess by going so blatent I'm hoping that it's clear I'm not trying to hide anything.

I've tidied up the 500 a little bit with a right-hand coil knot, so it's still there in case I want to 'neck it'

WOW! My eyes hurt!
Orange has always been my favorite color and you have satisfied any craving I may have had for a dose for maybe the rest of the day. LOL
Not much chance of losing that set up on a drizzley UK day.
Can't help it...I love it!

I have the same sheath, same color and all. It hasn't left my neck since I got it, well, except to sleep and shower :p

Yeah, you're not going to lose that. :D I like it though. Do you know of a good reference for learning to tie knots like the coil and so many other paracord knots I see around?

ORANGE! the ESEE-3 was my first knife in orange and i like it more than i thought i would, and i agree you wont lose that. and hoopster kydex is great stuff :D

I'm still contemplating paining the handle orange to be honest, but can't find a coating that is durable enough.

It's a shame ESEE don't offer either some little g10 scales in orange for the izula, or an orange coating :)

Lap the two ends and wrap them with a little wire. That way you can still pull the ends to adjust, but if it gets caught on simething, or someone grabs it, it will break free and not throttle you.

You could always make some mate. I might give it a go and show you the results. I think I still have some orange G10 left somewhere

mbassoc2003 - Cheers. Will give that a try.

Monsieur - I've got a wee bit of orange G10 to give it a try, but I have to confess I've never done anything like this before.
