Today I gave making some scales a shot. I had this pile on Koa in the garage and thought i'd use a bit.

I learned alot from the project. Might give it another try again sometime when I get some tools (im moving so I sold everything). I did it all by hand except drilling and it wasn't easy. I LOOOVVE the micarta scales so these probably wont stay on. Anyways thought i'd share.

Buddy those are fantastic! I think I need to start making some custom scales. I'm thinking about doing acyrilic handles for my collection.

Looks pretty darn good to me. It is a fun project, you did a whole lot better than my first attempt :)

Looks great, the character of the would goes well with the angry ant. Like you, I really like the canvas micarta otherwise I would get to work on a chunk of walnut I have.

Great job on the slabs man. Now all you need to do is strip the blade and patina it. Maybe file some grooves in the wood for a bit of grip? It's hard to say that because I fear that may defile the simple beauty of the wood slabs.

God bless,
Adam

That is awesome for completing it without any (major) tools.

Did you use a hacksaw and hand-sand it? Or did you at least have a Dremel?

Total time took about 5-6 hours. But I was watching movies with the fam too. I used a drill on the wholes. Other than that it was 100, 220, and 320 grit pieces to sand. My wave for the saw and used the izzy to carv it to shape. Also used the izzy to counter sink the wholes. Definitely gonna wait till I get some power tools to do this again. It was fun though.

that's pretty fast without any power tools and while watching the tube. i'm impressed!

Seriously! When I was doing the G10 slabs on my blade I watched the entire Firefly series! And also some MST3K I think!

God bless,
Adam (AKA Roll Fizzlebeef)

That's beautiful, you've got some mean skills there.

My Izula's going to be jealous, she only gets paracord.
