got my izzy 2 in the mail today - first thing I noticed was how much more comfortable that handle is -- and how familiar it felt.
so I took a couple of pics of it and my 4 so folks could see the similarities and differences.
I always thought the Izula and 4 were too close in size to complement each other very well - I've come to the conclusion I was mistaken.
stacked: tail to front of grip is the same length, nt counting the choil on the ESEE 4

and the obligatory spine shot...

for the record, it's a green 4 - the flash made it look a LOT darker than it really is.

1066vik,

The Izula II and the ESEE-4 are great knives. They go together well. But I think the interweb ate your pics.

God bless,
Adam

1066vic,

How are the slabs on the ESEE-4. I got a pair of Dale's on recommendation and have been very happy. But I am somewhat sad to have not had a chance to compare the originals with the customs.

God bless,
Adam

Adam,
I like the original slabs fine, but I keep looking at the ones Dale is selling and wondering how much better the 4 would feel with that extra 1/2" of grip and the tail hook.

The TKC scales make an amazing difference. The only thing I might modify on the scales is the through hole for a lanyard. The current hole is just to small to easily thread paracord through.

I rarely used my 4 prior to adding the TKC scales, now I can't put it down. It even earned a spot as my avatar.

1066vik,

While I cannot make a comparison, I'll share you my thoughts on the extra grip and the hook. The additional 1/2" lets you choke down further on the handle for more chopping. The hook provides some really excellent retention, no worry about sliding off the end of the knife. Also with a lanyard loop sized up for two fingers I can choke back to a two finger hold if I really want to swing it. I tried choking back to a one finger grip but there's not enough hand on the knife to really stabilize it well. I think most of your energy instead of transferring into the wood your chopping would just bounce off.

God bless,
Adam

I've really been looking at the Izula and adding the scales later or Izula II as my next purchase to accompany my 4. Thanks for the comparison pics.

once you figure the price for an izzy and the additional for scales, you're pretty close to the price for an izzy 2.
as an added bonus, the izzy clip plate is included in the kit.

I noticed that. My 4 should be in tomorrow or Friday. Anticipation is high!
