How many times have I read the admonition to "wrap the blade in several layers of duct tape before wrapping the handle of an Izula!" :jerkit:

C'mon, I'm not so dumb or clumsy as to pull the knife out of the sheath while wrapping.

...

Ow! Damit!!!

:foot:

I'll have a nice little scar at the base of my middle finger. :o

Now that Izula really belongs to you, and you belong to it. Wear your scars proudly...

Well bro, hope that heals up quickly. Gotta be careful with ESEE's (All of them) they come sharp and hold an edge so well it occasionally makes me think I should just sell my sharpening stone.

God bless,
Adam

you know i feel luckier the more i read these posts. i have wrapped my izzy multiple times, and never cut myself, even though i dont tape the blade. although now i dont take the chance at all with my izzy 2

i didn't cut myself while wrapping either. i didn't have any problems at all. that doesn't make you safe though. i was just holding it in the sheath and it jumped out and bit me. i wasn't even doing anything with it at the time. it's still a mystery to me how it happened.

it is true though... that blade is officially yours now. congrats. that really seems like a weird thing to say to someone that just cut themself. we are a strange bunch.

I felt awful lucky (and smug, too), Nutn. I have two Izula's: The first I've wrapped and rewrapped a dozen times. My new one, one of them slick looking orange ones from knifeworks.com - that's the vicious one. But like you guys have said - now it's MINE!

Maybe I should start rewrapping my first Izzy so I can claim that one as mine, too...

Good job man!
Everyone needs a few good knife scars!
My first decent knife, a Cold Steel Spartan, ripped me wide open once while I tried to close it one-handed while I was climbing some scaffold :o
Got both of my fingers and my thumb, climbing down to my medical kit one-handed was quite difficult when I had to simultaneously wrap my hand in my tee-shirt.
I still have the blood-stained tee-shirt

I'm not at all superstitious about knives. A knife is a tool to cut things, it doesn't have a soul or whatever.

When I bought my first Izula, I had to settle for the tan one because no one had a black one in stock. I really wanted to try the knife out and for what they cost, I didn't really mind buying a black one when I could.

I can honestly say I never thought I'd use it much... just play with it and get a feel for the knife and then find the one I really wanted. After owning it for about a week, it bit me coming out of the sheath. Didn't feel good, bled a little, I said a few bad words and moved on.

Then a month or so after that, I got my hands on a black one. Then I spent an afternoon dyeing the scales black, and it looks great. But you know what? I've never used it. I know the knives are identical in size and feel, but the black one just doesn't feel like my knife. That tan one has been beaten to hell and back over the summer out in the woods... the tan one that I didn't really want. It's my knife.

I guess we'll see what happens with the orange one that should get here on Monday. Don't get me wrong, I love the black one, and I'm sure I'll love the orange one, but the tan one is the one I'll keep going back to.

Wow, I didn't even know that duct tape tip! I'll have to keep that in mind in case I take the scales off mine.

I didn't know how good I could do a wrap until I did one using a vice. Being able to use two hands makes it easier to keep everything nice and tight.

I expect I'll be posting a message like this before too long.
Once I plan on getting some orange para cord to wrap my newest Izulu and I am just clumsy enough to cut myself.

i got me and my girl izzys for xmas this year,a black with micarta scales for me,and pink with grey digicam wrap for her.mine hasnt bitten me yet,but hers cut the piss outta her finger the other day.

I really like the vise idea...how did you cover the blade to keep from marking it up with the vise?

You could wrap it in tape and put it in between a couple of layers of denim/leather/thick cloth and then put that between two pieces of wood.
