So, there I was, minding my own business, cruising on automatic when all of a sudden there's all this claptrap and yappin' about wharncliffe trappers and how useful they are and how some guy named Tony Bose came up with the idea and yadda yadda yadda...

I mean, I'm just a regular guy, happy with my Queen's, Case and the occasional vintage knife. I don't go out looking for trouble...(much). Hell, I'd even given up buying new knives for quite a while.

But then, after looking at all these beautiful Bose knives, Erickson knives et al, well...you know where I'm going...

(Sigh)...So then I see this picture, and I learn that the maker's not all that well known but that he's a friend whose work is respected by "The Old Dog" himself and that he had (in fact) given him the pattern. (Mighty fine praise, don't you agree?) And I really like D2...and jigged bone...and the pocketable size. Not to mention the shield...and...

...I was hooked.

That is a mighty fine looking knife....love the Bone. Are the Bolster and Cap dovetailed?

Sweet knife Blues. I did a search on JB Moore and wasn't able to find much about him.

Mike,

I didn't and don't know much either. He has been featured on the websites of various purveyors which is where I first heard of him.

I learned from Tony Bose and from speaking with Jim Moore that he's been making knives since sometime in the seventies and that Tony was his influence to begin making folders. (He gives Tony all the credit in the world and says that he's the "top dog" when it comes to knives of this sort. He's spent some time at Tony's shop learning the craft. I think it shows.)

Jim was apparently a trapper at the federal and state (Texas) levels in addition to his career making knives.

He told me it'd be okay to publish his phone number here, so here goes:

Hope that's of some use.

You can definitely see the Bose influence on that piece. Very nicely done. Jim, being a hunter and trapper you know it's gonna cut. Hope you gonna put it in your pocket and use it.

 It's in the pocket as we speak and it sure ain't destined for life as a drawer queen.

Wow- gorgeous slippy! I can definitely see the Bose inspiration on the clip point, though these bolsters seem a lot "softer" than Tony Bose pieces. I also love that wharncliffe blade- it looks amazingly graceful, especially with the soft (round) bolsters.

Great knife! Congratulations.

That size should be a very practical user.

Thanks, guys. Appreciate the kind remarks. Makes my wallet, er, heart feel a little fuller. ;)

Hmm... Given that my newest Erickson trapper shares similar design features...and given that Mr. Moore and I share the same last name.... I think I'm going to have to give him a call for something similar. Thanks for the pics and #.

JB does nice nice work very clean piece
I've seen a few of his with filework ala Ruple
Bone is real nice here Congrats!

And here’s the younger brother of Blue’s knife…

I felt left out having not gone to blade so I decided a little impulse buy was in order to help lift my spirits. :D I purchased that nice JB Moore single wharncliffe trapper I’m sure a lot of you have seen on Bob’s site. Here are the professional shots:

What a great knife this is! The bone is awesome, walk and talk on this is top notch, lock-up is solid. I am very happy with this purchase. I really like Moore’s style and his prices are reasonable to boot (and I bought it from a dealer)

Here are the actual size photos I scanned. Hopefully they work for your browser. You'll know if you pair a quarter to the screen and it's close to the same size:

J.B. is a heck of a nice guy and a very good maker. I've bought quite a few knives from him over the years. He does give Tony Bose a lot of credit for his influence. He does stay under the wire, told me he doesn't want anything to do with computers. Since he's in Texas he usually does two shows a year...Bruce's Sprit of Steel in Dallas and Chris Carlson's Central Texas Show in Austin. I gave him a new Case Muskrat last year for pattern specs and hopefully I'll have one made by him when I see him in Texas.

Hey, "Spaceport", I enjoyed chatting with you at the Blade Show.
(We talked about this forum and your business and just bs'd a little.)

Good to see you posting here.

J.B.'s a heck of a nice guy to speak with on the phone as well. After I got my trapper I called him and spent a bit getting to know him and about his knives and background. A good one for sure.

Hey Elliott,
I thought that might be you. Enjoyed talking with you at the show. I intend to try to have more of a presence here.
