What can be used as a release agent for J-B weld that will not affect it's strength and curing? I need to form a piece in place but may need to remove it later.
Thanks.

Brownell's aerosol release is the best I've used, but vaseline, or a good floor wax should get you by.

Brownells Acra-Glass kit has an in depth set of instructions on how to do this. The most important thing it says is to not have a "mechanical lock" which will make it impossible to remove the part after the epoxy dries. Now what I mean?

Be careful using any petroleum based oil/grease as a release agent. They often have the reverse effect of allowing the part to bond very securely, permanently.

I used carnauba paste car wax when I had to use JB Weld to repair the part of my drill press that holds the three handles(can't remember the name of it) and they released pretty easy, and that was 18 years ago and it's still holding.

That was applied to the threads too, before the JB, so you can see it works.

Just let the carnauba dry before using the JB, if you go that way.

I'd be willing to bet a spray coating of Pam would probably work as well. I should test that....
