As I submit the images to publications, I get a spec sheet for them. Always interesting to know the details.

It's an absolute treat to get a closer look at some of JD's work. I wish it weren't such a rare treat. Thanks Coop!

Coop, As you know I collect JD's knives. Thanks for letting us see two more. Jim Treacy

Beautiful knives, JD is a master at steel for sure, got to meet him a second time at Ashokan seminar in 2004, here are a few shots taken back then
Hurricane Ivan was wrecking havoc the entire weekend but otherwise it
was a great weekend, as they usually are there.

Here is a shot of him pressing a fold in a vise with the help of a friend

Then moving it onto the power hammer;

here he is giving a lecture on file work and how it's done;

a personal folder he carries, man this was sweet ;)

Not sure if you know this Gary but JD's personal folder was made by Bill McHenry. You can see his initals carved into the pivot screw.

I think it was a joint effort deal, JD did the blade I think and Bill the handle
but, that is what my hazy memory remembers...:)

Here is a very rugged and also nice JD Smith folder, notice how the handle
curves down, very cool...and sharp!

Hi Gary,that stag handled folder of your relative is way cool.That stag looks like it is quite old.Has he had the folder a long time.Beautiful stag and has the dark old stag look.If your relative does'nt care for the old folders like that,I can trade him for a nice new BM Rukus:D .
JD Smith does make excellent knives.

French Soldier: Well, I'll ask him, but I don't think he will be very keen. Uh, he's already got one, you see.

King Arthur: What?

Sir Galahad: He said they've already got one!

King Arthur: Are you sure he's got one?

French Soldier: Oh yes, it's very nice!

:)
