Has anyone had a chance to use a J.D. Smith for awhile? It looks like a very nice knife but I haven't even had a chance to hold one yet.

You could compare the JD Smith to a lockback Viele with better steel. It is definitely a large dress type of knife and not a tactical. It is is a bit stiff at first but it with time. It is a nice design and it is comfortable. Get one if you can.

I have been wondering the same thing. Nobody ever talkes about them on the forums. Very few retailers list them.
Can the forumites and Sal give us the scoop on this knife.
Thanks to all in advance.

V-1 & High Rent, This is my limited thoughts on the J.D.Smith:

I have one in my collection so i got it out and examined it for a few minutes.
The ergonomics are good ... nice comfortable knife. The action on mine is very smooth and locks up in typical Spyderco perfection. Nice blade shape. It is somewhat "dressier" than my various G-10 Spydies.

This is a Serial #'d knife and part of my collection, so I couldn't test the performance of the blade. (Gotta keep it Mint! )

All I can really tell you about the knife is it LOOKS GOOD and FEELS GOOD.

Buy one... you won't be disappointed. Of course I've never been disappointed by ANY Spyderco!

highrent1 - You betcha!

The action started beginning of last month with a Sorg/Broadwell camp knife, and won't end until the Badger show with an Etzler auto featuring 15 diamonds in raised 14k settings. 7 Spyders and 7 customs after the first and before the last. Sorry I won't be able to comment on the JD Smith quite yet, as it won't be here until next month.

Getting much action yourself lately? ;-)

Mr. Smith himself has been wondering why given the very positive buzz on this model there isn't more in the way of promotion going on. Perhaps it's too new and too soon to tell, but he's hoping that things start to jump a bit more before the inital heat dies down.

Hey J.D. !! Nice to see you posting here in the forums.

Hang in there, the word is getting around on your fine knife! But... I just can't convince myself to use this one ... I'd hate to ruin "Near Perfection" !

I will be getting another one in the future, as a "user".
I'll post a more in depth review when I can put it through the ropes.... literally.

Whoa, that is a good price! I'm going to have to try to gather up the cash. The more I check the knife out in pictures the more I want one. Hopefully it will have the same "feel" as my Calypso jr in micarta.
