For the folks in the know, what type fexible belts are you using both for wood and steel. There appears to be several types from the various makers.

Thanks

I really, REALLY prefer the Hermes J-flex for handle contours and blending into sculpted guards. These are the belts with dark blue abrasive and yellow backing.

I have tried the Klingspor J-flex belts (these are yellow abrasive with light blue backing) and I don't like them as much. They are quality belts, but they don't roll and flex the same way that the Hermes belts do.

But I don't use these belts on blades... just handle work. :)

Yep. :) The link in your first post are the Klingspors that I'm not entirely in love with. The Hermes in your second post are my favorite.

I'm not saying one is really better than the other, as I think they're both high quality belts. I just prefer the way the Hermes will roll and flex into my handles :) I have been using the Klingspors on my rotary platen, to go around sculpted guards, and I do like them for that... but almost any belt will work in that application.

The J-Flex belts (I've only used the klingspors), are great for handle work etc, but they don't handle metal well and are too flexible for many tasks IMHO.

The 3M 707JE belts are not quite as flexible as J-Flex (they're still highly flexible), but I find them much better for plunges, and other metal work. They're ceramic, so handle the metal much better, but are inappropriate for wood. Trugrit carries them.
