I have a J. Kidd 110 coming and I've never had or handled one before. Can anyone comment on the difference in the quality of workmanship (if any) in comparison to the Dave and Brian Yellowhorse knives?

I can't answer your question, but I saw those on auction and was wondering the same. The prices they were going for seemed very reasonable. In the craft world you often have a few big names who do fine work, but if you look further you will find others doing the high quality work without the superstar status. So I was wondering myself. I'll look forward to any comments you may have when you get yours.

Yeah, having got that one for $115 + postage, it's alot less than just about any Yellowhorse knives I have. I'm looking forward to getting it next week.

Sometimes, name is everything.

If the J. Kidd name suddenly takes off and becomes really popular......you'll have made yourself a tidy profit......especially if Yellowhorse has peaked and lost popularity.

If J. Kidd then suddenly kicks the bucket.......the sky is the limit. :)

That's why collecting is fun.

:D

when you get your JK knife and compare it to a Yellowhorse you will see the difference 1 big difference is no silver spacers between the inlays of stone the second is the textureing on the bolsters, YH is hand done JK is done with a c7m machine

Neither are using real stone - reconstituted rock dust, dyes and resins.

This is the first time I've heard this and I'm rather disappointed. I'm sure you would know if you examined them, as you work with real exotic stone. As a leather bookbinder who practices the traditional hand craft, I hate reconstituted leather and all those "fine bindings" (so advertised) that are spray coated, not burnished; and die-stamped, not hand-tooled.

I'm wary of anything reconstituted. In a hand craft you can cut corners any number of ways, but when you begin doing that you no longer have that quality. Of course that will drive the price up, if you seek quality, but you generally get what you pay for.

I'm still looking forward to Plumberdv's impressions of the knife he ordered.

Actually all the engraving on Wild Horse Knives are done by hand. I am the one that does the knife from start to finish. I use a hand engraver to do all the engraving free hand.

J. Kidd,
Good to see you chime in here!

Dave,
Please let us know your impression when it arrives.

I have a couple of Redrummd knives and they are very nice! Also, have 1 which Dave Yellowhorse did for me which is also super, it has lapis on it which I brought back with me so some (at 3 that he did for me) of his knives are real stone so he can/will do it.

Well,

Mr. Kidd,
Digging up a thread several years old is an interesting activity. We here on the Buck forum would welcome some timely , more current, discussion of your Buck associations and appreciate some photos of Buck knife work you have undertaken which will entertain and alert our members to your skills.

Ohen did you see the dates on the threads you are commenting on?

Its a little odd to just start something up out of a three year pause, I won't lock the thread but lets be sure to not go back too far without just starting a thread from a new beginning with current information. You can reference the past in the present.
