Has anyone reviewed the Neilson "Bowie Knives" and "Advanced Hunters" DVDs produced by Chris Crawford. Haven't been able to find anything. I really like the Paul Long videos produced by Mr. Crawford and figured the Neilson videos could be a good watch too. Has anyone seen them? Any other suggestions while I'm buying DVDs?

Cheers,
J. Keeton

Paul long videos were 2010 and fantastic, but I suspect a good part of the video quality was from Paul's existing good shop lighting.

Advanced hunter is 2016, later more experience with videos and and should be as good as that one.
I think I've seen it, but can't find my notes.

I did a pretty detailed review of the Ed Caffrey - Center Cross videos and I recall they were bad.

Yeah Paul Long's pouch sheath video was excellent... I'm getting another one from him too. I'm hoping the Neilson videos go into some MS level fit and finish. Always good to see different perspectives. Seems like it could be the next best thing to shadowing in person which I'd love to do someday... but time is short.

I made it though "Advanced Hunters." Overall I think it's worth the buy. Always great to see the work of a master smith. Video quality was really good. Filming was good. There were a few details I would of liked to see more of, but I feel like if someone is getting started on hidden tangs this would be a good spot to start.

I will say that I'm kinda surprised at his lack of "attempted precision." What I mean by this is that there wasn't any laying out grind targets on the blade or handles. No making templates for a dead nuts symmetrical guard. Stuff like that. After watching Nick Wheeler and Kyle Royer I guess I'm skewed. I think it showed me that; depending on the operation... I could be over thinking some parts of my builds.

Not throwing stones here; the end product was awesome. I guess it really goes to show his experience shining though. He can get symmetry on the grinder where I'm struggling for it with hand files. That's another take away. The man knows how to use a 2x72.

Next up is the Bowie Knives video he made a year later! It's twice as long so I'm excited.

I’ve bought many videos from Chris and have never been disappointed. I do believe it all depends on where you are in the learning curve, but even if you pick up one good tip it is probably worth $37.

I agree! Low cost learning right there
