Well, I had a very good Christmas this year. Under the tree for me was a little beauty made for me by J. Oeser. CapitalizedLiving turned me on to his work, and I am very grateful for that! I don't see a lot of Jared's fixed blades posted, and I'd love to see some of his other work. There's a cool thread featuring his folders over in the traditional folders forum, but his fixed blades are also over the top in my opinion. So if you have one - post a pic!

The one he made me is one of his full sized bushcraft models - the Alta. This knife so surpassed my high expectations, and I just had to share. This is one of the most comfortable knives I own, and came sharper than probably any knife I've purchased. It has a nice, full grip with the perfect amount of palm swell/contouring. This knife was made to work. I have typically used convex or scandi blades, but this one is a full flat grind. It feels like it would slice very well, and has a very small micro-bevel that would keep the slicing ability while making the edge robust enough for some hard work. I can't wait to try this bad boy out, but we just got 9" of snow today, so it'll be another day or two...

This one has a 4" long, 1/8" thick O1 steel blade, and comes with beautiful black linen micarta/orange G10 scales.

Let's see some pics of those J. Oesers!

Now that's a micro-bevel!

So what other knives are you comparing this to? I would love to see your review after some good use to see how it holds up. Picutres are a must!

Very nice knife, excellent pictures. O-1 is one of my favorite steels for that size and purpose blades. Enjoy, and let us know how it works for you.

Well let's see, what fixed blades am I comparing this to? Well, I've owned quite a few production fixed blades from Fallkniven (F1), BRKT (Bravo 1, Big Sky Camp), Becker (BK9), Busse (BATAC, Boss Jack, Boss Street, FSH, etc.), and quite a few customs from Fiddleback Forge, Laconico, Gossman, GL Drew, Koster, Blind Horse and now J. Oeser. These are some of the ones I can quickly recall off the top of my head, but there were many more.

Which ones have I kept? I have 2 Fiddlebacks (Camp, Bushcrafter), 1 Blind Horse (Bushbaby), and 1 J. Oeser (Alta). I've had other knives with a similar flat grind to the J. Oeser I just received, and if the heat treat is on target, this knife will be one of my few true keepers that will get used for years to come.

Wow - beautiful blade! One day I'll get over my obsession for the "impervious" handle material and try some nice warm and gorgeous wood like that. Is that Cocobolo or Ironwood?

Thanks - I only wish someone had turned me on to them before I spent this long buying and selling looking for the perfect (for me) 4" fixed blade.

Discovered J.Oeser knives by accident. His work is awesome. Haven't seen a whole lot of paper micarta pins used out there. I received a Bushcraft EDC for Christmas from my wife and daughter. He is a craftsman indeed, and very smooth to do business with.

Wow - gorgeous handle on that one J! Looks like a perfect size for a hiking companion or a light pack knife. I love how Jared's knife handles fill the hand regardless of the size knife! Seems like they could be used for long periods of time without fatigue. Once this snow lets up I'll get it out and post back the results and some pics.

I absolutely love it Jared! I don't know how you got this handle feeling so perfect for my hand, but you did! And I mean it when I said this is the sharpest knife I've ever received from the maker - bar none.

Thanks for building such an awesome blade for me - you need to do this full time!

Nice one! Congratulations, Jared's work is top shelf in all respects. While I'd love to say that Alta is mine I think Jared has a pretty exciting plan for my next one!

I'll put up some better pics of my Oeser bushcrafters once I get that rare combination of sunlight and free time...
