This special commissioned Arkansas Living Treasure numbered knife based on JR's Hidalgo Fighter pattern and using his 'transition damascus' steel with extensive engraving and carving, is inspired by the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing games. Learn more about D&D here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/whatisdnd

JR wisely focused on dragon skin/scales and claws as a basis for embellishment. I say 'wisely' because artistic embellishment that pegs the knife forever as a "D&D knife" would leave nothing to the imagination and IMHO limit it's appeal. Not everybody knows about D&D, but the way JR has done this allows anyone to appreciate the knife and it's reptilian scales motif (how 'bout those ball and claw guard tips - two cherries on this sundae! :p).

The blade shape (another recently posted eg: http://www.fototime.com/077627E61D16F5D/orig.jpg ) is 10 1/2 inches of u come any closer and u gonna die enlivened by the voltage in those transitional damascus patterns. Handle is carved fossil Walrus ivory. I borrowed a dragon head and claw from a much larger illustration by Jeff Easly whose fantastic art can be seen here: http://www.jeffeasleyart.com/

Buddy,

I don't know anything about Dungeons and Dragons, but I know that is a super knife. I love JR's Damascus and the way he carved the handle.

The dragon background is a nice touch in your photo.

JR is creating great knives. Really looking forward to seeing his creation for the CKCA Jerry Fisk Cutlery Challenge.
Outstanding knife and image.

JR, I didn't have any idea that when you showed us that guard the other day at lunch with Jerry that it was going to turn out looking like that. That is one beautiful piece of work. My hat is off to you my friend. Tell Thomason that he took one heck of a picture as well. Andy
