I wanted to share a few pics of my bowie from ABS Journeyman Smith Ben Seward. 1/4 inch thick 300 layer hand forged tight ladder pattern damascus, heat colored zirconium guard and spacers, bronze file worked spacer, bark mammoth ivory handles, mortised together, with hammered pins, and some of the best plunge grinds in the business. Feels great in hand and carries well on my hip. David made this beautiful sheath to my liking, carving and brown elephant. Thanks for looking and comments welcome. Ben is working hard to have his M.S. stamp next year.

What an incredible knife, Kris. The mortised tang construction looks perfect and I can only imagine how well balanced that is in hand.

Thanks Gary, it really is as nice and well made as it looks. I am quite taken with this piece.

That's a truly beautiful knife and sheath. Ben does great work. David's leather work is as good as I have ever seen. Having been privileged to handle this one I can say without a doubt how wonderfully done both knife and sheath are. Congratulations Kris.

Chris

Wow stunning!
What is mortised tang? 2 handle slabs with no tang showing?

Beautiful knife Kris! I would be proud to own that one too. The sheath is also amazing.

Wow! What an amazing bit of craftsmanship on both the knife and the sheath. I cannot even imagine the amount of hours and dedication to the craft that goes into a knife of that quality. It just leaves me speechless.

Your taste in knives is exquisite as usual, Kris.

If you ever posted your collection in one picture, I'm pretty sure a few people would have heart attacks. That's a sweet bowie, and that little brass spacer is a really nice touch.

Thanks for the kind words, folks. I you get a chance to go to the I.C.C.E in Kansas City, I would highly recommend it, lots of fine traditional knives on display. Tom Ploppert and I had some long conversation, and he also has my favorite new handle material, Tozaki jigged stag, Tom has just enough for a knife for me.

I admire Tom Ploppert's work and look forward to seeing what he makes for you.

The Bowie is exquisite and the sheath a work of art. Always a pleasure when you share your pics!

That knife is beautiful and the sheath is equally as nice thanks for posting it up. It should win the knife of the day easily.

Outstanding knife and sheath. I've always admired Ben's work but it just keeps getting better. Be happy!
