New Smith - as Les has stated there is no question he is one of top 5 - S30V blade w/Carbon Fiber - simple & not ostentatious but just quality in every aspect - ergo on this is phenomenal - plus cuts like a son-of-a-gun! Definitely meant to be used!

Hey "P". . .what are the spec's on that knife (i.e., OAL, blade length, etc. . .) ?

Superb looking knife !

Gig,
Blade: 3.5" S30V
OAL: 8"
Liners & bolsters blasted Titanium
Ti clip
Handle is one of most comfortable I've ever used - knife just disappears in hand - just enough curve to conform to the hand and give superb grip.
JW definitely put some serious effort into finish of blade - know how hard it is with 30V. Wicked sharp edge with all grind lines even.
Action is smooth & slick - "walks and Talks"!:D :)

That is one more good looking blade penguin! John Smith knives have an elegance about them but are built tank-tuff! I have my 4th one coming in on Saturday. It is a LS-1 Recurve with a 4" blade of S30V, ti bolsters, and cf scales. I believe this is a newer model he is doing. The bolsters are shaped like those of his folding dagger meaning they are symmetrical. The handle has a more rounded butt to it also. On another note I traded for a Vanguard Smith in S30V that is the biggest Smith folder I've seen. It is totally AWESOME! Of course everything I've handled by JW has been that!:D

Nice score penguin!

Yeah that is one great looking folder.., and the fit and finish looks incredible...thanks for the pictures...

Because they brought my newest Smith this morning.:D The LS-1 is a fantastic looking and handling piece. Go to www.bladeart.com then follow the trail to J.W. Smith and you can see a pic. I also have a MRC large and the LS-1 is a tad bit larger. Though it is a tad bit smaller than the Vanguard Revloution. The blade appears to be a little wider and the recurve more pronounced. However it is though, it is pure John W. Smith! Fit and finish just have to be seen up close to fully appreciate it. The action is as smooth as butter. I really like the top opening disc as it seems a thicker than many I've used and gives a better purchase for your thumb. The bolsters, being flared at the front and symmetrical to boot, along with the wide handle and rounded dropped butt give the knife a very distinctive and rakisk appearance. Lock up, grind lines, edge are all outstanding. The knife locked up rock solid when opened and there is absolutely no play in any direction. The locking liner comes over just to the left side of the blade tang and it takes a strong push to disengage it. Just like I want my liner locks to lock up!

John W. Smith, if you haven't tried one do yourself a favor and try one out. Just wait long enough so I can raise a little more scratch and get the LS-1 Eighties before it gets gone! :D ;)

.......because I just talked to Ida and the blue carbon fiber Scimitar is heading my way! I looked too long and too hard, and then the red cf got gone and I knew I better hop. This will make my 4th J.W. Smith and if anyone has any doubt that John W. Smith makes a serious tactical folder, with a touch of class, just call me and I'll fill your ear full!:D

Man got to wait until Thursday to get it. Thursday! Two whole days. What will I do.:( :) :D

I actually live not too far from BladeArt in Miami, and so i took a little drive over the other day. I checked out one of those huge JWS LS-80's, very nice knife, great fit and finish. What appealed to me even more was a smallish recurve of his with smooth, gray giraffe bone scales. The knife i DID leave with was an Aaron Frederick tactical recurve folder with CF handle and blued damascus bolster. While it may be offensive to those who love JWS knives, the Frederick has fit, finish and quality equal to JWS. Very similar liner thickness and liner to blade engagement on both the Smith and Frederick, the main difference between them being the damascus bolster.

...........but the fredrick is not offensive to me at all. I think it is a very good looker and it also has that little touch of class while at the same time being a hard use tough as a tank tactical folder. I saw the pic over in another post and I for one think you done good Meg!:D
