I received one of these for Christmas last year and from what little I used it it seems to be a very capable knife, a typical KABAR. I have not seen much about this one, so I am asking you fellow forumites. To those that have experience with it how has it held up for you? Whats your likes/dislikes? Thank you.

I've only had one for about a month and haven't used it in the field at all but have been getting to know it in the kitchen. The scales don't seem to slip when wet or greasy. While heavy for the kitchen it doesn't feel overly large in hand when doing fine work.

I look forward to using it on my hunts this fall.

It's like a massive version of the Acheron that comes with the ZK series knives. I actually like the shape the more I look at it. Didn't initially, but it's really growing on me. Hey, as a point of interest and without me having to check the KaBar catalogue again, what steel is the Baconmaker made from? 1095cv?

1095CV. I don't see it listed on the KaBar site anymore and the potbelly is priced reduced. Are they going away?

Thanks Garry! I e-mailed Steve Johnson as well and will pass on what I find. It would be a shame for such a nice knife to fall off the list.

No problem Sir, I like this knife too and I consider it a "sleeper". No one really talks about it.
Is the one you have a flat grind or hollow? Mine is hollow ground, I understand they made both.

Mine is hollow ground as well. Cuts roast chicken in 1/8" slices, paper thin pepper slices. You are right on when you call it a sleeper.

Turns out they are discontinued. Oh well, I'm pretty sure they will be available for a while. In case I decide I need another.
