Always looking forward and I really like the looks of the Jack Hammer and Hell Razor. I have held a Hell Razor before and I really liked it, and IIRC it was a Special Edition or Competition that had no finish on it. What is your opinions and thoughts on these two blades?
Thanks

I really like the look of both. I think the Hell Razor will be a bit better at chopping, but that is just me thinking.

I like the taller look of the blade on the Razor too. I think the Jack Hammer will be a bit better at poking things?

Man, tough call...two of my favorites. I'm going to go with the stock answer here and say:

Get Both!

I would love to get both but I am a teacher in Oklahoma--meaning that we are 48th on the pay scale. I kinda have to plan accordingly like a lot of the people out there. I know that I teach summer school and this year I treated myself to a Waki and S5 so maybe my tutoring check this go round can go to one of these.

Saying that, the Bushwhacker will have me going on a reduced lunch and cu into my caffeine fund!

The JH is more of a self defense blade while the HR is more of an all arounder.

In that case, let me be the third person to say that the Hell Razor is a bit more practical/well rounded. The Jack Hammer is pretty much a fighter. Go with the HR....you won't be disappointed. Its a great knife. Also, there are more options out there. The mag handles on mine are my favorite.

I was kinda getting the feeling that the JH is more a fighter. I know I am not a fighter, anymore, but the one time I got stabbed with a knife I screamed like a little girl! I am a true believer that no one really wins in a knife fight.

I have never been in a real knife fight. I did have a girlfriend who was 'pretending' to stab me with a knife, my instincts took over and I blocked and got stabbed in the hand for it. (She is now an ex-girlfriend.)

All of that being said, I would think the Hell Raiser to be the fighter of the two. It looks like it would be much easier to sharpen the swedge on it, in effect making the point similar to a broad double edged dagger. This will be brutal for back-cuts but does not lose anything in any other 'attack' form.

That being said I like the Jackhammer better. I think of it as a top class utility field knife that would also double well as a fighter, where as the HR, to me at least, is a pure bread fighter. I like the shorter blade and overall blade shape of the JH quite a bit better and think its one of the overall best looking blades Busse-kin has released in a while.

I have the 2008 SE Jackhammer and its a sweet blade. It have an awesome super sharp edge on it too.

Well I have my Jackhammer set up primarily as a Utility Knife....

The competition finish is great for food prep or meat work and being a none painted blade complies with our Health & Safety legislation for Deer Larder work. The convex edge comes nice and sharp but benefits slightly from a little thinning for me...and a little stropping...then it is a very robust "razor"....my Jackhammer gave me my first idea of how good a fully convex edge could be.

I brought to a pinnacle the false swedge on the blade so that it was not sharp per se...but could be used as a strike area for a ferro rod....at which it excels...for me the Jackhammer is an excellent well balanced utility belt knife AND would fit the bill very nicely as a military belt kit knife....it certainly looks beautiful as a design as well...but it is not just a "fighter"....mine batons wood as well as my Skinny Ash and for Deer work I like the shallower blade.

Although even to me it looks a "wicked" design....and I am always grinning when I see it.... I have had some worried looks from mates who are soldiers when they see it ....and they are not really "sheeple".... they all think the bevel technology is a mix of multiple "blood grooves" and that it is designed for "sticking"....

For this reason I am careful to carry this just on my webbing...turn up to a Bushcrafter Course with one of these and you will get more than a few worried looks...and if you ever had to justify carrying it for that purpose with our "strict" laws over here... I think the magistrates would only have to see the blade to "make their minds up".

With that in mind I went ahead and got a SJTAC variant which I have modified to make it more of an acceptable "civi" use knife...if I only had the one knife I might be inclined to weigh up this factor carefully...but that is me being in the UK...Stateside....it should'nt be a problem.

Get the jackhammer.

The HR's butt is not my style. That's the only thing that just completely turns me off to the HR.

I appreciate the insight and pics. To be honest I thought I had my mind set on the HR, but now I am not so sure. The JH looks like a good belt knife to me too. Sometimes I hate decisions LOL.

Never handled a JH but i've had 3 HR's in my time. Still got one and I rate it highly.

Great field knife but also works very well as a tactical knife. Used it on several weekends with the Marines, always out performed the task I gave it. That and it looks too badass for me to part with it.

I am 100% Hell Razor. I need to buy myself a comp grade and have some pumpkin handles put on it as a graduation present.
