Both me and my son-in-law purchased Jack Hawks from Stephen Liley. I have to say that while he bills these Jack Hawks as beaters you could hang it on the wall right out of the box and get ooohs and aaahs every time someone walks by it. Customer service was fantastic and Stephen is a pleasure to do business with.

They come hung on a 19" handle that is flame hardened and finished with beeswax. The head is blued with Stephen's secret mixture that gives off some incredible blue and purple colors in the sunlight. The head is very nicely wrapped both top and bottom with sinew, which works as a perfect contrast to the black handle and blued head. The head itself made of a jack hammer bit is heavy and you can feel right away that this thing is going to chew wood.

In the field it doesn't disappoint and bites deeply throwing big chunks. It never gets stuck in the wood, not once. Right after getting these beauties our weather man forcasted a "regular old evening thunderstorm," nothing severe. So of course what came through snapped 200 year old trees right at the base and left a mess everywhere so we got in lots and lots of chopping. I like that this hawk will do most of the work, all you have to do is aim it and start the motion and let the the steel do the work. After a few days of lots of chopping, no dents, no rolls, no chips and aside from a little polishing of the edge it is out of the box sharp. This steel is impressive!

The hammer poll is fantastic. The best thing I guess you could say is that the hammer poll is as good as a very good hammer. It smashes anything it hits and is straight and flat so it drives in a nail like a store bought hammer. I would never worry about doing damage to this hawk by hammering where that may not be the case with others.

Overall I am very impressed with this beauty. Thanks Stephen!
