Jackasses

Every rugby team i've ever met is the same way. "Get drunk and do stupid things to your head" always seems to be the motto. When i was in college a couple years ago the rugby team wasn't nearly as refined as we rowing crew snobs... ya know, with our naked drunken bicycle riding and the building of 6' snow penis in the university president's lawn. Hey, at least no one's nose got broken;) As a side note, a REAL rugby team would use pressure treated 2X8s:) crazy bastids.

DIJ?

I'll give a shiny nickel to your favorite charity if you change the name of your thread.

Strange, I had the same reaction. Yet, try as I may, I cannot come up with a single practical reason for my initial discomfort. I think we have all been brainwashed with political correctness.

True, the more proper structure would have used the term "retarded" as an adjective, followed by an appropriate expletive; since "retard" means to slow down or delay. But, if Danny has used slang rather then proper English, at least the title is elegant in its brevity. I perhaps would have chosen another slang term more properly associated with the anatomy of elimination, but, DIJ's language is perhaps better suited for a public forum.

I'll give ya a shiny nicklle, and know why my discomfort, because of my cousin. And sadly, can be honest and say I use term myself, though tend to look down on myself affterwards(don't look down on others for saying it, don't have same reason I do not to). But would be happy if you'd change it.

Thanks for the link though, can only hope they win Darwin award someday, preferably before they reproduce. :)

Yeah, calling those guys "retards" is an insult to people that are retarded. They wouldn't do anything that dumb.

I don't see how that one idiot had such bad aim. I mean, how could you miss a head that big? That thing is HUGE.

we would all certainly benefit from an increase in tolerance and acceptance of all people....all sizes and shapes....

However, the title aptly fits the people involved.

I have never used the word to describe mentally-retarded/challenged/etc. folks. My father's mother was in and out of the psycho ward many times growing up and I never called her that. I had a neighbor with an autistic child, and a classmate who was very slow/behind in class - somehow, never thought of them as "retards".

To me, that word is like "idiot"...."stupid-head".....or "monkey-brains".....just something people say about folks who aren't using their heads.

If the word offends you, don't use it. It doesn't offend me. I knew what DIJ meant to say. He's not in any way implying that their behavior mimics or makes fun of mentally-retarded people. He's just saying "stupid-heads"......

Note: this comes from a "sensitive" guy who has never been in a fist-fight and can count on one hand the number of times I've ever cursed. (just a lil' perspective, lest you think me a crude fellow)

Yeah, I didn't care for the title of the thread either--but it's more because I'm a lexical grammarian (and a bit neurotic). I like words to express their actual meanings. It annoys me when words migrate too far from their lexical beginnings and the etymology starts to get muddy.

So, if this had been a thread about skydivers and was labeled "some retarded people," I would wholeheartedly approve! :)

Sorry Kismet. I tried to change it for you but i couldnt.
I meant "people who CHOOSE to do stupid things and get hurt despite the obvious consequences of their actions."
Thats what I meant.
I couldnt fit it in the title box...

I did not like the title.
But any distinction between DD and retard is nonsense.
They found what they hoped would be a better word and it was the same -

Jack ass might be better for this thread title

that would be a good one too.....

:p

now, who's going to stand up for the mule's rights?
