Beautiful!:D I saw some Polish Sabres with stone handles at an exhibit here in Tulsa, absolutely lovely, but wonder how they would actually hold up in battle conditions!!!!

Yvsa, jade was routinely used for axe heads and war hammer heads. It is a remarkably tough material. I would think it would be fine for a handle if you can take the weight (could be used to balance the blade weight to make the weapon "quick") and the fact that it is cold to the touch.

Doh! I shoulda thought of that, but didn't really realize that jade was used for those purposes.
I always relate jade to the delicate oriental carvings that are so wonderfully made.:D
That such delicate work could be done so long ago with the materials they had is a never ending source of amazement for me.

Very Nice!

The guard works well visually on that one too. The blade shape almost has a modern look to it. Nothing new under the sun, I guess!

Very nice. I love the lines of the blade.

I particularly like the guard. What is it made of?

Rod

It is a unique khukuri model by itself. It's blade shape .. it's grove .. it's cho .. the beginning of it's sharp edge .. the outstandingly pointy tip .. all carry it's own style!

Is that khukuri was made in Nepal? I have sort of feeling that it was made either in India or in England! Any detail infos .. JP?

Mohd. This most certainly is an Indian made Khukuri from around the mid 19th cent. Grip guard is steel.
Thanks for nice words all. Rod

Rod, you've forgotten that you are deathly allergic to jade. Have a friend package the nasty thing up (carefully) and ship it to a place that is far enough away (california) to ease the discomfort. Email me for the exact address.

Aadvark, I got a good deal , came with its own supply of anti allergy tablets, but thank you for your considerate, kind offer!! ;)

I would love a handle with that shape. How does it feel? I am a little afraid of reworking my handles to take off those sharp flares. So I simply adjust and reposition my hand on the handle (I have small hands so I can hold an 18" ak with my hand over the round part of the bolster and my pinky is above the ring)

Very nice Vet, Ive Seen a few of that blade shape with inlayed handles, but not ever a with pure jade handle like that! very nice!

Congatulations!

Thanks for showing it to us.

IIRC from my lapidary days;
Most or all jade has some sort of fibrous structure.
That's what makes it tough.
Need to do a quick websearch to find out about that structure.

Incredible old blade- nice in many ways. Notice how unobtrusive the guard is... works well. Maybe we should rethink this.
