Hello everyone! I just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Jonathan Neely and I am a hobbiest knife maker under the name “Jaeco Knives”. My knife making journey started in November of 2014. Just prior to that I had finished a degree in machining, both manual and CNC. I fell in love with metalworking during that time and somehow I came across the idea of making knives as a hobby. I quickly fell in love with that too. My biggest influences in knife making are Shannon Carter of Shannon Carter Knives, for his overall excellence in craftsmanship, Ken Vehikite of Black Roc Knives for his outside the box knife making abilities and I also love his rough grind finishes, Dylan Fletcher of Fletcher knives for his amazing combination of colors in his handles, not to mention his awesome craftsmanship over all. There are so many others I could name that have helped and inspired along the way.
I’ve made some great friends in the knife making fraternity over these last few years and I’m thankful for the helpful instruction I’ve received.
Unfortunately, I’ve gone through some pretty hard times on a personal level the last 4 years and I haven’t made a single knife. I thought those days were over for me, at least until I retired. I even sold a lot of my professional grade equipment along the way. However, I did manage to hang onto the equipment that got me started. I’ll slowly build a shop again but for now, I have what I need. Thankfully, I did purchase a Grizzly mini mill last week with the hopes of making folders.
I have an Instagram page “jaeco_knives” and I would be humbled and honored at the same time if you’d follow along on my journey once again. Before, I tried to pump out knives as fast as I could. I don’t want to do that this time. I want to enjoy the process and each build. I want to have fun! I hope you all will like what I have to share and if I’m lucky, some of you may even buy a piece or two when the time comes.
Thank you for taking the time to read and I look forward to getting to know many of you.
