Jaeger- Le Coultre... Oh My!

I never lusted after a real expensive watch. Don't get me wrong, I wear an Omega Seamaster Pro stainless most days, so I understand quality and what it costs. I'm talking about real top end watches. A 14K gold Rolex President doesn't do much for me. Nor does a top end Cartier or the a Patek.

I just looked at a Jaeger Le Coultre like the one pictured here:

I'm not likely to be able to buy a watch like this for decades, if ever, but I think it looks just right. I love the idea that with a Jaeger Le Coultre one guy makes the whole watch and is responsible for it's quality.

I can't believe how much these cost!

Amazing.

That IS one gorgeous watch!

(And I can't believe that you didn't order several at that discount! ;) ;) ;) )

I've wondered what they look like since one was featured in William Gibson's "All Tomorrow's Parties."

I was over at timezone.com yesterday looking for something much less expensive when I saw the Jaeger -Le Coultre name and had to look. I'm nearly done with All Tomorrow's Parties and it had triggered my curiousity. Now I know why the guy in the book was so facinated by the watch.

Rolex pres are 18 k not 14 k if they are real. Some idiot was trying to sell a 14k gold nugget on ebay the other night.

Man. . .you guys just made me feel like a cheap bastid for wearin' a $450 watch ! :( :D :p

Those are some very nice time-pieces !

For some reason. . .when you associate the word "watch" with a piece that costs over $10,000.00. . .just doesn't sound right ! LOL

A $10K+ "time-piece" sounds so much nicer ! :D

I love my JLC. Here's my Jaeger LeCoultre 18kt rose gold Master Control Moonphase.

Hi JMX,

Just thought you'd like to see. Here is the watch that William Gibson wrote about in "All Tomorrow's Parties." It is a RAAF Military JLC MK 11 G6B/346. This actual watch was issued to the Royal Australian Air Force in 1953.

what is the deal with prestigetime? very nice site...great watches...from reading the fine print it appears they go into NYC and get the watches (gray market??)....anyone bought from them? serial numbers etc intact?

Well...that's true for some JLC watches, but that particular model uses a perpetual movement that comes from IWC.

The very same one as in my GST Perpetual and Novecento...

Uhh.... you mean Jaeger Le Coultre supplies movements to IWC. JLC makes their movements in-house. Traditionally, it has always been IWC that has outsourced. In the case of the Master Control movements, IWC gets them from JLC. However, both companies do fall under the Richmont Group.

Best Regards,

Bob

Nope, that is not what is going on here. IWC invented and produces the perpetual calendar module that is attached to the JLC base movement. JLC neither designed nor produced the perpetual mechanism in that watch--they buy it from IWC. It is completely correct that IWC has used JLC movements--the Novecento (second version) is an example of a JLC base with an IWC perpetual module attached.

See here for more information.

Yes. I'm very pleased with how the Ti has held up against scratches.

Wow, what with how that RAAF JLC looks -just- like the IWC MK series, I guess the military spec must be pretty precise.

Too bad no one makes an inexpensive ($300-$800) auto with that style.

LOVE the MK XV.
