Interested in this sword. Anyone out there have one? What's the balance and feel like? To me it looks like an agile short sword. Also tht Khandar dagger, any informal reviews? Just wish it had a tanto point and I think I'd get one. THX

You're probably not going to hear much good feedback on those swords at this forum. Many people don't consider them "real" swords. As far as I'm concerned, they're probably okay for the price, but I'm lacking many of the details (other than holding one once!). Help me out (I can't find out any REAL details on them): What kind of steel do they use? Heat treatmnet? Blade thickness? What kind of grind?

If you're willing to spend a little bit more, may I suggest Mineral Mountain? I just happen to be a dealer (!). I can testify for the craftsmanship, usablity, and strength in MMHW's swords. Each piece is guaranteed for life and are made one at a time (3/16" or 1/4" 5160 steel, torch hardened/oven drawn, oil-quenched) by the blade-master Ted Frizzell. If you have any questions about Mineral Mountain's stuff (see link below), email me or call.

Back to the Ontario Blackwind stuff. I'd like to hear more about the materials, manufacture of them. Anyone out there know? Anyone have one?

Ontario swords are 1095 carbon steel, .187" thick hollow ground and not differentially heat treated. I have their katana which is the same dimensions as your wak. Bought it before I came across your website. I like it! The Jager sword is a khukri-type blade with same construction only it's 15". after wrapping the tsuka in 550 paracord I have no complaints! But I'm interested in something shorter. Noticed that G-19 Bowie of yours!! Man, that's a blade. Also that Gladiator is impressive also. Was wondering how the blade rests in your kydex sheaths? Does it lock in or just rest in the scabbard? My Ontario katana locks into the sheath with the side flanges near the handle locking into the sheath. Maybe I'll just save up a while and go for one of your Bowies.

Yeah, I like the way the Jager looks. Nice kuhrki looking blade. Sounds like the Ontarios are pretty decent swords for the dough.

Funny you mention the wak- I was just messing with the brass bolsters/guard on mine. I'm using a product called "brass black" to, well blacken the brass. Turned out pretty good but a bit splotchy.

Mineral Mountain's bowies (Ted makes 'em, I just sell them) are very nice. I recently got the White River Bowie (12" blade) for myself. I generally never really had much interest in bowies, but damn... I like this knife. It's practically a short sword. I use it for my camping and backpacking outings. It is tough! Great for making firewood.

Ted makes all his sheaths so that the blade locks in tight too. The Kydex either grabs around the bolster, guard or handle, depending on the blade. They all snap in nicely.

Let me know if you decide to go for one of those bowies (or anything else).

Later...

Yup, I carry a big blade for the same purposes: backpacking. Something to cary easily on a pack ad multi-use. Yeah that K-19 bowie may be the one for me! A bit more than I wanted to pay but defiitely looks worth it. THX for the info!!
