I've had chance to peruse these foreign CHICOM blades ; the MASTER line seems to have a good edge.
Can't say the same for the other(s)
of the same ilk. Why then, do people go for these "El Cheapos" on places like eBAY, Home Shopping network, etc. And some actually post their "catch" on this forum. I just don't get it. And it seems like hypocrisy
IMO to berate someone's "high end" folder/fixed/whatever and then buy CHICOM $h*t like this.
What's you forumite(s) "take" on this topic?

AET ;)

I have a few cheapos, Don't think I would ever buy another, but I still have a few from previous purchases. I have them in a small drawer in the kithen.

You just have to follow some basic steps. First You never let your girls see them (High End Knives). If they come in contact they may never be the same.

Second you never carry the POS knives, no matter how cool or what the task. The one time you do, someone will ask to borrow your knife. Sometimes this is where the POS knives come into play, If they are a moron or need a knife for extended period of time, head for the kithen drawer, However there are lots of folks out there that you would rather not see you carring one.

Third, Don't even try to take them to the Sharpmaker. If you do, the Sharpmaker will feel belittled and dirty and will need a thorough bath.

All in all, there are a few cool cheap knives out there that you may think are worth your money, but I say save up a few bucks or wrap some pennies and at least get a CRKT :)

It depends. If you can choose (say at flea market) from big number of individual peaces you can find one build pretty decent (good lock, no blade play etc, etc) If you can’t test before you buy – you likely get badly build. Plus there are few copyright issues with most of these knifes.

Few years ago, most knifes I booth was cheap Chinese knock offs of known designs. I still have some of them now, but currently I prefer legit lower end companies, mainly crkt. They have very nice quality (you don’t need to examine 100 knifes before you can find decent build. They have wonderful warranty and costumer service so in the long run it maybe cost you less to own good knife than few cheap

Master Cutlery is ripping off designs of TOPS, Emerson, and others -- AND putting the TOPS, Emerson, etc. logos on their knock-offs, and trying to sell them as the real thing.

Stay away from Master Cutlery.

What Danbo said.... (see below)

-Junk-

If you just want to play around, take apart.., and try some filing or first-attempt customizing..., these knives aren't bad to start with as long as you pay practically zero for them.., but to use?????
