Does anyone know of a good place online to buy a nice jambiyah? Museum Replicas has an alright one, but I don't really like the stylish jaguar head on the end (I prefer knives where form follows function). I would appreciate any info on where to get one, thanks in advance.

Oh, and welcome to BFC.

I must admit not remembering right away what a Jambiyah was, but I checked at the web site linked above, and they had several (Indian, Persian, and Kurdish). It seems a Jambiyah is a strongly curved double bladed dagger with a prominant center ridge and an sharp upward movement in the blade at about half its length. Interesting ethnographic piece. I would rather have something more or less authetic than the replica with the jaguar head you mention. There are pieces as low as $150 on that site.

What do you want with a Jambiyah, anyway?

I was fortunate to have a friend buy one for me while she was stationed in Saudi Arabia. She was careful to get one of the ones that are sold to locals rather than a "tourist specials" or display model. It is a beautiful blade, but also quite practical.
