The recent post about the Frank Buck 110 made me think about another 110 sold on eBay recently belonging to a celebrity. As an avid collector of Buck knives and a fan of the TV show Gunsmoke this knife caught my eye. Claimed it was his "favorite" knife. I did inquire about about the nature of proof and was told it would not be shown to prevent fraud. Still an interesting knife and I'm sure it is legit as the auctions appear to be by the Arness family but without a picture of Arness actually holding it or wearing it on his belt a I personally would not be enticed enough to bite. Auction ended at $355 for a $50 knife so someone liked it.

He must have liked Buck knives. Here's a 121 from his collection.

An all American iconic western tv show, iconic actors. Why not all American iconic knives to go with them? Gunsmoke is my favorite tv show and I can imagine James Arness with a Buck knife on his belt, hip or in pocket. This makes my day! Thanks for posting!

Isn't $355 about right for an early no dot 110 in good to excellent condition?
It don't look like the tip was ever broken.

I remember when Walt Longmire's character was being compared to Matt Dillon - both being fair, strong, and all business. Now we know Longmire and James Arness carried a 110. Kind of a Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon thing going on there. :)

Yeah, with a sheath in great condition it could possibly go for that price even lacking the celebrity claim.

Those early sheaths are getting harder to find in that condition.

IMO $355 would be a bit too much. I did do a quick eBay search an a similar new in box sold recently for $325 so that is the high data point.
Yeah, you are right that $50 is on the low side for eBay but there are good deals still to be found if you search the gun shows and flea markets vigorously.

But the nice old ones don't come up that often, so if you got too much money and want it now........you pay what it takes.

It happens......fairly often.

:)

I’ve got the Gunsmoke dvd set first 12 seasons and planning to get 13th,14th and I think the 15th is available now. I’ve watched them all and starting over and on season 2 again. I keep a watch for knives but usually they’re hard to get a good look at. I liked a large folding jack knife Festus used occasionally but never figured out what it was.
I would love to have got that 110 for a display. I’d even make a special spot with other Gunsmoke memorabilia. Lol

I never new he was a Buck knife fan, that's very cool.

He was a great actor, and a WW2 veteran with injuries that made riding a horse difficult.
He was dedicated to the role and the show however so he rode a horse often despite his injuries.

It would be cool if Matt Dillon carried a knife that was commissioned by Buck.

Well, Kevin Bacon used a Buck 110 in the movie, Rivers wild :)

I believe if one of the 'Dukes of Hazzard' actors sold one of the 110's actually used/worn on the show it might fetch a high price..

I thought the Duke boys used 112's. I've been getting my daughter (8 years) and son (5 years) into the show since it's my favorite of all time and honestly it's what drew me to Buck. We were watching it a little bit ago and I was looking at Bo's sheath and it did look closer to a 110 size. Is there any conclusion to which one they used?
